My intention is to buy a new SSD in the future (probably a WD Blue 1TB or 2TB), but I think it will not be a problem to install it myself.

Also, I am not sure about the RAM, but I really think for the moment 16 GB are enough, and if I need more in the future they can be installed.

Otherwise, including the SSD and 32 RAM the price would be almost £1900.

The last thing is about the Graphic Card, I am almost convinced about going for the RTX 2070, provided that this model is not using the MAX Q version, but I am opened to read opinions about the RTX 2060 (£200 difference).

Thanks to all who collaborate

It's not the max-Q version don't worry. It makes it quite clear when they use the max-Q. Otherwise looks sound to me. There is supposed to be a panel refresh in the next month or two so depends if you're willing to wait a bit to see if some nicer panels come out. A 2070 might work quite well with a 1440p panel for example.

What do you mean exactly with a panel refresh? New screen models available? Sorry about that, I am not a native English speaker.

I don't mind waiting a month or two, my old laptop is still working.

Thank you for replying!

If it is mainly for gaming 16GB RAM is fine. If you did need to add more RAM, or the WD Blue you mentioned PCS allow us to open up and work on our machines without voiding the warranty and they are happy to give advice on how to do it.

That's right - PCS have said they are expecting to get 1440p high refresh rate panels for the laptops in the next couple of months (so I heard).

A 2070 would go very nicely with 1440p gaming, if you don't need the laptop immediately.

At the very least, you could contact PCS directly before buying to ask if they expect 1440p high refresh gsync panels to be available for the Vortex, and if so, when? :)

I too am waiting for some news on the new 1440p panels, although I'm not sure a mobile 2070 has the grunt for a 144hz 1440p panel, you'd be wanting G-Sync on it at least.

PCS should really put up notice of new gear coming soon, and why G-Sync isn't an added option on all high hz panel specifications is beyond me. As Oussebon states, unless the purchase is mandatory now, I'd wait for the new panels to release and make an informed decision then.

Ive yet to see any existing 1440p 120 / 144hz screens for 15.6" laptops so I cant really comment on it. Although, I do know 17.3" 1440p 120hz screens exist.

Hi again,

As I said, I don't really mind waiting a couple of months. But, will 1440p screens make a real difference?

I have read in multiples forums that it is not actually easy to appreciate the difference in a 15.6" screen.

I'm also interested in the 17" Vortex chassis, I spoke with PCS yesterday who couldn't provide a definitive answer on if it would be made available.

Whilst I was at it, I asked about 1440p screens in their laptop range, again they were non-commital other than should such opportunities become available, they would look to offer them.

Thanks for sharing your findings. I am more interested in the g-sync but would not be opposed to a 1440p screen with a high refresh rate if it comes in the 17" Vortex chassis. My Defiance 2 is still performing admirably so I can afford to wait for a while longer before pulling the trigger.

Amen brother, why all 144hz panels don't have G-Sync, at least as a paid extra, I've absolutely no idea.

PCS are very good at getting major new releases in promptly.

They can be, in my opinion, somewhat slow at updating ranges once they're out.

It was quite a while before they were offering faster RAM with Ryzen systems, and laptop screen options have often seemed to lag a bit sadly.

PCS were talking about getting 1440p screens in sometimes April-June, but from the most recent reports that seems to have been vagued-up a bit now. It's always possible that frontline sales staff weren't given up to date info and that the new screens are indeed coming in the next month or two. Neither possibility would astonish me :)
