VR Headsets

Since there are plenty of peripherals on offer including gaming chairs perhaps VR Headsets could be another option available.

Good idea, although currently the stock of them seem to be fluctuating, more so the Rift than the Vive. There's also the Razer OSVR which is supposed to be open source and a much lower $400 price tag but with mostly the same components inside!

+1 although given the relatively high hardware demands of VR, the configurator would probably need extra checks/warnings put in.

And Sulon Q apparently http://www.wired.co.uk/article/amd-sulon-q-vr-ar-headset for the AMD fans out there.
Though that seems to be more of an all-in-one solution.

Interesting, remember seeing that headset a long while ago but completely forgot about it.

I'm hoping that game engines can provide some good compatibility that can then be used by any headset otherwise we are just going to end up wish such a fragmented market for VR games that will preference the more expensive models over the cheap ones.

Wouldn't an i5 and a gtx 970 be sufficient for most, if no all, VR headsets available? Just looked at vive but unsure about the others

Yes, those are the minimum specs for the vive and rift. The OSVR should be fine with those specs too. I really can't see anything in the next couple of years needing more than that as a base level. There are many people with the vive working fine with older cards as well.

Currently there's no real demanding games for VR, most are cartoon and fairly low detail art style so they can run no problems on lower machines. Once we start seeing more AAA games for VR then those minimums will come into play and may even be too low to play the games in a year or two (especially after the new consoles are released).

For VR, see Project Cars:

And also GTX 1080 vs GTX 980ti: http://www.roadtovr.com/nvidia-gtx-...performance-head-to-head-against-the-980ti/3/

Noting that the target is 90fps:

Besides which anything with an i5 and a GTX 970 as a baseline is hardly low-end.
