Hi all,

I am considering buying a vyper but will want to put Linux on (probably Fedora). Had anyone done this and got the RGB keyboard working along with decent fan controls...

I got one of these and put Linux Mint on it. I had quite a bit of trouble getting it installed as the linux kernel in the installer I was using didn't support the processor, though the latest kernels do. That was a few months ago so things have hopefully moved on since then.

There is no keyboard backlight control at all. It's not using a clevo chassis, which seem to have some support. It seems to be using some USB-attached backlight driver chip for which there is no documentation or linux driver. You get a blue backlight which is on always.

Fan control seemed to be ok for me.

Main issue I had is that the keyboard is not great (very noisy, not a great feel to it) and one of the hinge mounting points on the LCD back panel broke internally when opening the lid after a couple of months. It's been back with PC specialist for repair for 3 weeks already and they're saying it will be another couple of weeks. I'd avoid this laptop model if I was buying now.

I think I’m right in saying the vyper is a tong fang chassis. Clevo’s do tend to be quite compatible with Linux compared to the tong fang.

especially the Recoil ones. I think people did get fan control and the backlight working in the end?

The chassis isn't sold any more. Possibly the delay is sourcing parts? Though that is a very long wait in total.
