Vyper 3 - Advice Before Purchase

Hi All,

I'm close to purchasing the laptop below to replace an ageing laptop. The laptop will be used primarily for gaming and day to day use. It'll be the sole machine with no other desktop PC or console in the household.

Please can anyone advise if any changes need to be made? I'm considering both this unit and the Recoil 4 but I chose the Vyper due to the similar specs but lower overall cost. I could stretch the the more expensive Recoil if people consider it to be worth the extra money.

Any and all advice welcome! Thanks in advance.

Are you going to be using an external monitor? My understanding is that the RTX2070S is for 1440p/144Hz gaming, so it's overkill for the laptop's screen.

I'm also a bit confused why you have an option to put a GPU with a TDP of 215W in a laptop with only a 230W power brick - maybe someone else here can enlighten me?

That’s a mobile GPU - there’s no real ‘thing’ of being too powerful for the screen in a laptop form factor. You will struggle to hit 144fps, which is the screens limit, on the most demanding newer titles anyway (control etc).

The desktop variant of the 2070 is the perfect 1440p/144hz card.

The rtx2070s is a great laptop card and the build looks great. I can’t comment on the particular laptops as I have a different one, so will leave that to others.

So the days of the laptop version of a GPU having an M on the end are gone...

Thanks for correcting me :)

That's kind of been replaced by Max-Q, which are lower powered variants similar to what the "M" were. So looking at the 2070 Super, the Max-Q I believe comes with a TDP of 80w and 90w, the full laptop version (often called Max-P) has a TDP of 115w and like you said, the desktop card has a TDP of 215w.

For the average buyer it's all very confusing.
