Want (not need) a 3080ti in a Thin Case

I had a desk made to my specification, and I made a mistake in that I hadn't considered that I couldn't use the entire shelf for the PC. So I need a case 235mm or under...

The CORSAIR OBSIDIAN SERIES™ 500D SE is a PERFECT fit!!! I could cut the 'middle' bar out, as its mainly cosmetic, but I can't bring myself to do that.,..

I went into the custom config option and decided to opt for AMD (for the first time) and a 3080ti... I've opted for fast ram/ and a 12 core CPU. That's more for future proofing, but the PC will be used for serious uses other than games in a 80/20 work/game split.

I'm not up to speed with processor cooling, but because of the case my options were limited. If there was another option that would be quieter, then I would go with that...

As for the Graphics card the ASUS AOS ROG 3080ti is showing an earlier ETA than the one listed in my spec. But I can't add it to the basket..... I'm not a great lover of the Palit cards (I had one fail.....). So Asus would be my preference, but is there any real difference? Could I order the standard one, say I want to swap it after ordering?


Any Comments welcome on the above or other aspects are welcome.

Silver warrenty for £5 extra is a good thing :) if your going corsair aio cooling u dont need the artic m4 thermal paste the cooler comes with its own high quality paste most pepole have a 500gb m.2 to store operating system on and another 1tb or 2tb m.2 for games

Not much point in paying extra for the Corsair 3600MHz ram over the 3200. The 3600 is single rank CL18. The 3200 is CL16 (not sure of rank but suspect single) so effectively same. Buy your own ram if memory performance is key.

Also why are you choosing two slow SATA SDD when you could have at one more fast M2 SDD? Is that being driven by the RAID1 requirement? RAID1 is an availability solution not a backup solution so do you need this? Would other backup solutions (cloud, NAS, external drive) etc be more effective?

Not a fan of Palit or Zotac cards myself but not convinced price differential of Asus is good value.

Bearing in mind the various bits of advice above, here's the build I'd suggest instead.

The only question I have is about noise: if you really want the quietest build, a third SSD would make sense over the hard drive I've suggested. A pair of RAID 1 cards isn't a great bet for a desktop setup.

Other than that, you'll be waiting a while (October, it seems), but if you're happy with that then all power to you! Your desk is gorgeous, by the way.

Agree with the desk comment, plus the G9 as well, going to be a stonking setup!
3080ti queue isn't too bad, we've had people going into build around 25 WD recently, basically just the 3080 and some STRIX cards that still have the long wait.
Build above has everything you would want. I would recommend the 1000W PSU on the basis that if you're wanting the best gaming GPU now you'll want the best GPU when you next come to upgrade, which may have a larger power requirement. Would also recommend trying to amend to the H115i Elite Capellix if it comes back into stock, as it features an improved design and comes with the Corsair Commander for your fans.

Would a 3080 fit into a Corsair 220T? If so that would be thin enough to fit there no problem. Plus it's a very good case

My 3080Ti fits in my 220T iCUE - so unless it's a extra-long card for some reason it should easily fit in the 465X or 500D!

BTW the 220T case itself is slightly narrower than the 210mm listed in the specs, but the thumbscrews holding the glass side panel stick out a bit, so I assume this is where the 210mm total comes into play.

You may also want to put the bottom-front fan (on both the 220T and 465X) on a different fan curve (or turn it off), as it's wedged between the front panel and the HDD cage, so makes more noise at the same speeds as the two above it in clear air.

220t rtx Gpus with 3 fans - it’s VERY tight, very. About 2 cm of room between end of card and front fans

The 500 D SE has opening tempered glass panels on each side. The horizontal bar on the left side of the caddy will prevent this from opening.

The difference in price between the 3200 and 3600 is £20. Is £20 pounds worth it? If I'm going to be processing videos (Premiere), then I would guess this could make a difference...

It's not much of a difference in price between 3200 and 3600 (and I think right now for some reason the RGB 3600Mhz RAM is actually cheaper than the non-RGB). It's more with Corsair having moved to single rank Micron die it's simply not great value. Instead of selecting Corsair 3600Mhz CL18 single rank RAM, you could just select 1x4gb 2400Mhz and save about £200. For £160 you can buy Crucial Ballistix 3600MHz CL16 single rank RAM (lower latency, cheaper) and fit it yourself in minutes.

You'll probably have plenty of cooling in there with the 3 front fans and the 2 x 140mm AIO fans.

You can always easily add in a matching exhaust fan at a later date if you think the temps are getting a bit hot.

I've got almost the same build/fans as you, but in a iCUE 220T case, and am seeing no heat problems in my usage (mainly gaming).

The only thing I'd say with your build is that the second 980 is unnecessary: you could go for the 2TB Firecuda and save quite a lot of money. If you don't do that, be aware that Windows will get installed on the 2TB drive because it is marginally faster.

And yeah, you'll have ample cooling. I doubt an exhaust fan would actually do all that much if anything for your temperatures.
