Hey guys, im about to purchase a new PC but i have learnt,
if i purchase platinum warranty and when that has ran out i will not be able to upgrade/renew the warranty
although if i purchase silvery warranty and when that has almost ran out i can upgrade to silver warranty for 1 extra year,
and then the same with platinum warranty
is this correct?

Kinda,

I purchased the fiver warranty, then a few months later upgraded for a extra years warranty, so have 2 years cover. But I think you have to do it before the warranty actually runs out.

i'm sure one of the pcs guys will confirm though.

I suspect if you order an extra years warranty to make it up to 2 years total (ie. if you get the silver now) it would not just be an extra fiver, it would I suspect be the different between the silver and gold prices (or thereabouts)

i was talking to a guy on live chat he was sayin that i can only get 3 year warranty..
silver wait 9 monts uprade to gold but then he said that i only get 1 YEAR added because its an upgrade..

I honestly wanted to buy platinum warranty and renew it when ever its close to runnin out. but the guy said i can only UPgrade so once the warranty runs out then i pretty much have no warranty.

Well upgrading a one year warranty (silver) to gold would just increase it to what you'd have gotten with gold in the first place, which would be two years from the start - which would only seem like an extra year.
When your gold is a few months from running out you may be able to (though don't quote me on this) upgrade to platinum at that point which would indeed extend it another year.

Thats what the PCS guy said but i am wondering if it would be possible just to renew a platinum warranty and pay the £135 again to get 3 more years..

Generally no-one will extend the warranty on a PC after 3 years anyway.

Also the way warranties work, is that it gets exponentially more expensive as the item gets older since it's more likely to go wrong.
So even if PCS/someone would give you another 3 years after the first 3 had run out, I'd expect it to be a lot lot more expensive.

Im going to be spending £1300 ex vat so i don't want it to mess up after 3 years...
is there any alternative after my 3 year warranty runs out?

After 3 years you could probably replace the pc with the same spec for the same as an addditional 3 year warranty would cost anyway?

3 years is more than enough cover for most people, you could probably get it covered online somewhere after the PCS warranty runs out if you were really that concerned.

isn't that insurance that covers things in your household ? :p
edit : Contents insurance is quite expensive £350 - 1 year :/

You wouldn't get contents insurance to just cover your PC, you'd get it to cover everything in your house :) Most people have some form of contents insurance anyway to cover against burglary and such.

And my contents insurance is a bit over 100quid a year (admittedly it doesn't cover accidental damage)

So what does it cover :/?

edit : the only valuable thing or the anything that is liable to break is my PC
another edit : Does Know How cover customized PCs?

Contents insurance is not for stuff failing to work.

Contents insurance is for covering stuff that is stolen or damaged through fire or stuff like that, though many have accidental damage coverage (if you pay more) so if you accidentaly damage something it may be covered under the insurance.

It should not be used as a warranty at all, truegrace was joking.

I'd say ya best going for two years warranty for the pc, this "3 Year Gold Warranty (2 Year Collect & Return, 2 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour) (£69)" It's a good price and if something happens after two years, then just pay for the parts as labour is covered.

if you went for "3 Year Platinum Warranty (3 Year Collect & Return, 3 Year Parts, 3 Year labour) (£135)" your totally covered for three years, i wouldn't worry about anything that far ahead.

I have to worry about things far ahead as i am not the 1 who is paying for this PC and like someone else said PCs are prone to have faults on them after 3 years. Also i am buying a high-end spending £1300-£1400 Ex. VAT and i dont want to be spending £300 to get the PC fixed if it does breakdown after 3 years. Thats why i am worrying so much, i am a heavy gamer my pc is turned on 6 hours every day on weekday and on weekend 8 hours . I did have a PC before a really old one, every year it had something wrong with it and i took it down to the local hardware store and payed at least £50 to get it fixed an the parts were relatively under £30 each.

EDIT : CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF KNOWHOW CAN COVER A CUSTOM BUILT PC OR JUST A PC FROM PCSPECIALIST???

As said before pretty much no-one will give you a warranty on a PC after it's 3 years old - no matter whether it's custom built or not.

If there is anyone out there that does they probably charge an arm and a leg and you'd probably end up spending more on warranty/insurance than the PC was worth.

I get what ya mean about things going wrong,

3 years warranty your covered for everything. PC's are designed now days to be only for long periods of time, mine is on for a 4 hours per evening unless I'm out.

If you make sure ya components are nice and cool, it will help ya components live longer, gaming sessions will certainly build up the levels of heat in ya case. Use software to keep a eye on cpu and gpu temps.

Try and make sure your room doesn't get too warm, give ya pc a dust every few months, the dust insulates heat, a can of compressed air usually does the job pretty well. Not forgetting fan filters to help prevent the dust getting into ya components, most cases come with them already fitted.

What spec have ya gone for dude?

You do realise in 3 years that your £1400 PC wont be worth anything like that, it will be somewhere about £400 i would geuss. Any cover you could take out would be asking for a significant chunk of that value for 1 years premium.

Remember PCS offer a lifetime hardware support service, if something has gone bang, call them up and they will diagnose it over the phone. More often than not it's a simple fault that just seems like it's complicated, you could then buy any part that was broken for less than the cost of any warranty and pop it in yourself? The insides of computers don't bite, their is a guide to almost everything on the internet and youtube will offer video step by step instructions on most repairs.
