warranty period?

Hi everyone, just over a year ago (around 54 weeks) I bought a pc specialist laptop from pc world. I paid alot of money for it because I wanted one with the 980m gtx. In the last few days whenever I try to play a game the computer starts beeping very loudly with the caps and num lock lights flashing together. If I dont exit the game straight away, the laptop shuts its down :( How can I tell if this will still be covered by warranty and then if it is, how do I claim on it because I wouldn't expect a £2000 machine to die after 1 year :(

By default, the warranty on parts for PCS machines is a year, and the warranty on labour is 3 years, when buying on the PCS website you can also pick warranties that last 2 or 3 years for parts, but I doubt you'd have got that buying through PC World.
You may need to email or call PCS to check if PC WOrld didn't tell you, but I would have thought you would be on the 1 year parts warranty.

Just out of curiosity have you checked the temperatures of the laptop at all, if there's too much dust in there you may find it's causing temperature issues, I'm not sure whether temperature issues would cause your problems, but if it is full of dust it may be worth cleaning it out anyway.

yup I installed open hardware monitor and nothing was really going above 70c as it starts beeping pretty much within 30 secs of launching game before anything can really start heating up

wow that's going to be pretty harsh if its a year and its died just over the year threshold :(

Maybe it is software related, you could try to do a clean reinstalation of nvidia drivers.

how do I claim on it because I wouldn't expect a £2000 machine to die after 1 year
Whether is £2000 or £200 we should expect the same level of service and aftercare. Not sure the type of warranty you got through PC World but I would assume is standard which means that you need to pay for collection/delivery.

You are still covered by the sale of goods act regardless of warranty. If the laptop is not fit for purpose due to a defect which has caused premature failure then the warranty situation doesn't matter. If however it has become faulty due to abuse (overclocking etc) then I'm afraid you won't have a leg to stand on.
