What are you listening to? Spring/Summer '13

Around this time i like to collect some good albums and make up a bunch of CDs for summer driving. Currently have two records on repeat, "II" by Unknown Mortal Orchestra & "Earthlings?" by Earthlings. The former is a Lennon/Mcartney drenched folk/psych/funk/soul outing, with really really amazing melodies and a funky groove once the album settles into its natural rhythm, released earlier this year.

The second record is from the late nineties, and features members of several US desert rock bands, such as Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss & the Desert Sessions project. If you like QOTSA/Sonic Youth/The Meat Puppets/ Stone Temple Pilots or even something a bit different from conventional rock music then this album is great.

Here's a selection of tunes, i hope to see a couple of responses over the next few weeks with what everybody else is listening to.

Dude LOT of cool stuff in there. When the levee breaks is maybe one of my favourite zep tracks (though that whole album rules, and i'm currently riffing out over "Ten Years Gone" on my Strat :) )

Coincidentally the cover art/musical style could fit onto the new Far Cry DLC

Went to see this band in Glasgow tonight and they rocked hard. Highlight for me was watching a mature woman spit a half pint of stella all over the guitarist while he rocked the guitar solo.

Also do we have many guitarists on the forums? I thought about doing a "post your rig" thread and maybe get some chat going about pedals.

My listening habits are wondering at the moment, strangely enough, I've been abusing the Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1/2 soundtracks, nothing like a bit of reminiscence!

Will have to try out the Earthlings though, Kyuss and QotSA are amazing, so if it has the desert rock sound it will be good.

All I've been listening to in the last year is crap arena-rock stylings of Shinedown, Seether, Blackstone Cherry and the like, although the latter are doing some pretty good tunes.

But then of course, those of you who weren't around for the Gorman-era forums, can't bit a bit of good old Yorkshire doom metal, so My Dying Bride always crop up.

This one came round on my ipod the other day, brings back great memories.

A track that blows my mind and stereo equipment in equal measure...play it loud...

Doctor Who stuff, mostly. There's some surprisingly amazing tracks on the OSTs that either barely feature in the actual shows, or only a 30-second segment of a 6-minute track.

For example "My Time is Running Out", from the second disc of the Series 6 soundtrack.

I'm a bit hooked on songs from when I was a (less overgrown) kid at the moment like:
Robert Miles - Children
Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone
Usher - Yeah
Tatu - All the Things She Said

But I generally like pretty much anything, especially if it has a big enough bassline to wind up my Mum (I'm a teenager, It's what I do best)....

I've been enjoying a varied selection of music lately. From Tool to Daft Punk's new album (which is growing on me quite a lot). Pretty good stuff. Doesn't really help me work though, which is a shame.
