Hi,

Without knowing your intended use it is difficult to say for sure but here are my thoughts. The 128GB SSD isn't a lot of space these days. On top of Windows and your other programs Windows will allocate 16GB for hiberfil.sys, it will create pagefiles (2 of them since Windows 8), allocate some space for shadow file/snapshot data amongst other things. I think something bigger is needed to give you longevity and flexibility.

I'm also not really a fan of the current generation of hybrid disks, which need a bit of an update if they are to remain in the market on merit. Yes the 8GB portion of the space is going to be faster than any spinning disk but the controller needs to learn which 8GB of files you open most often, if that's even how you use your data. The remaining space will be a bit slower than the better spinning disks and in the end I think something like a Western Digital Black is better.

As you've gone for 1TB and 128GB as two separate disks how does a 1TB Samsung Evo SSD compare price-wise? Yes it is a little less space but you'll get much better performance overall. Another option which would cost more is a 240GB/256GB SSD and a 1TB Western Digital Black. That gives Windows more space and gives you faster (overall) reads/writes for your general files.

Hey.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I wasnt all that clear on what I wanted. It's a low-budget (1000 pound max) gaming laptop.

And I swapped the Seagate for the 750gb WD Black. The 1 TB of the Black model wasn't on the list of applicable HDDs. With JUST the 1 TB Samsung Evo? I'm about 110 over budget.

But it's kinda a moot point, already ordered it now.

(So I have the 750GB WD Black plus the 128GB Samsung, which is where the OS will be installed)

It's enough space for now, and I'll buy another larger SSD later on and add it.
