What Size SSD Should I Get?

240gb SSD - [link removed]
480gb SSD - [link removed]

I'm in the middle of building a new gaming PC and can't decide between getting a 240gb or a 480gb SSD. I'll be installing the OS and games on the SSD, that's it. Any music, movies, videos etc. that I have will be stored on a 1TB SATA HDD which I already own.

Which brings me to another query I had... Am I right in thinking that using a SATA HDD as well as a SSD will reduce the performance of the latter? I was sure I'd read something along those lines somewhere but wanted to make sure. If that's the case, then I'll have no choice but to just sell the SATA drive & go with the larger SSD as I'll need the space considering it'll be my main/only storage drive.

Thanks guys.

Size depends on how much you are planning to store there, how many games, applications, size of those...............
Where did you hear the performance of an HDD will decrease if you have an SSD as the main drive? don't think that's the case

Some of the very knowledgeable people on here may be able to offer some general help with your questions. :)

I have never heard of the performance of an SSD being affected either way by the presence of an HDD. The only way the SSD performance might be affected is if elements of a program or game are stored partly on the SSD and partly on the HDD. Then the limiting factor would be the HDD access time and you'd probably not see the benefit of the SSD. Having said that you'd have to be really dumb to split elements in that way. Lots and lots of people run with an SSD as the OS and programs drive and an HDD as the data drive, that works perfectly well.

Awesome, thank you. I guess at the absolute maximum, I'd be using 200gb on the SSD. Would a 240gb be enough in this case, or would the drive start performing worse due to space being taken up? I won't quote where it's from, but somebody on another forum said "Solid-state drives slows down as you fill them up, fill your solid-state drive to near-capacity and its write performance will decrease dramatically. The reason why lies in the way SSDs and NAND Flash storage work."

If that's the case, I may just have to go with the 480gb.
