What upgrades should I buy?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if could help me suggest any upgrades my PC? My specs are down below. Any suggestion would be awesome! I've had these specs since 2020ish. It runs Adobe software and some games. However I would like it to run more games smoothly with good graphics still. For example, GTA graphics doesn't always run smooth. Or football manager, the performance levels drop when adding more leagues!

I would mention a budget, but I'm all ears. Weather it's £200-500. Just fire across one or two different options!

If you need anything else. Let me know! Thank you.

And we’d need a maximum budget, that doesn’t change based on anything, it’s a fixed maximum you have available.

But you need an actual gaming monitor for starters as well as a gaming gpu. What tier you can achieve is dependent on your budget.

The rest of the platform is pretty solid and doesn’t need anything doing.
I would say up to £800-1000. Like you said, that's max and I think £1000 is the max. Depending what I need and other alternatives.

Gaming monitors makes more sense. budget would be the amount I mentioned just above.

Glad the rest of the platform is solid! Should help save some ££ for the monitor upgrade etc.

So £1000 will restrict you to mid tier of any decent quality. As I said, a max budget doesn't. change, so if you suddenly decide you'll spend more, I'll lock the thread as we're not going to do a dance around.

Just want to be clear before we start giving advice.

For a top end upgrade you'd need more like £4000, GPU alone would be £2000

I can accept Mid Tier for now. As long as it is an improvement I can be happy with that and save up for top end upgrade. I appreciate you letting me know as my knowledge is awful and with the prices ranges as well.

Cool.

So you'd be looking at a decent 1440p setup.

For GPU, in a Black Friday deal, and keeping to the 850W PSU, I would wait and watch prices on the 4070ti which may well come down to more like the 700 mark, if it does, grab one.

Alternatively, and I'd still hold out closer to Black Friday next week as prices may still reduce, but you could consider an AMD card like the 7900XT, this one is from Sapphire who are one of the best AMD card manufacturers out there

Then for a monitor, an Ultrawide would give a far more immersive experience for gaming, and bearing in mind your work on Adobe, you'd probably be better with a flat panel as curved can produce distortion of the image. But obviously that's all personal preference.

But a 1440 ultrawide would also give you SIGNIFICANTLY more real estate for your adobe work, 1080p is seriously cramped these days in that regard, so you'd benefit hugely outside of gaming also.

This one is worth watching out for, it's an older VA panel, so it's making sacrifices to keep within budget, but is still a good monitor

But this is the one I'd all out recommend if you can find a good Black Friday deal and whatever deal you find on the GPU may make it within budget, this is a full IPS panel, plus it's flat so may better suit your design work, it's a really great monitor for the price and Gigabyte usually do some really competitive offers on black friday

Awesome! I will keep an eye out and see if hits the 700 mark. Looks very good! Hopefully can grab one soon. Will hold off for next friday and see if it drops.

Yer I see what you mean with the monitors, that makes sense. I will keep an eye on both and see if any more money drops on them. I'm very easy for preference. As long as it suits the gaming and I can still edit fine then it's a win win for me! Will bookmark both and see prices around.

But with that you're saying with the full ips and being flat then I'm edging more towards that one! And with black friday, there's a chance I can grab a good deal with it.

Thank you so much for the help / input. How you have broke it down and giving options is awesome. Looking forward on a better gaming experience now:)

That would be a very significant upgrade for you, think you'd be blown away.

The cheaper monitor is an old VA technology which means blacks are pretty poor and colour reproduction isn't so great, and backlight bleeding is worse. For gaming it would be fine, but not so great for your adobe work, I would avoid it if you can.

Let us know how you get on, hope you find some good deals. Amazon are worth keeping an eye on, but most sites next Friday will be worth checking out. Monitors usually get pretty hefty discounts because new models are announced every year at CES in January, so they do their best to clear out stocks on Black Friday.

Sounds exciting! Can't wait for it. Will be much more enjoyable.

That makes sense, and like you said. For adobe it wouldn't be ideal for me. I'll make sure I'll get the other monitor.

I will do and fingers crossed! I will keep looking throughout the week but hold on hopefully till Black Friday because that would be ace if it can get reduced even more. Especially if they announce new models! Thanks for letting me know, will defo keep an eye. Then once everything has came and tested will give feedback!
