Totally depends on your budget and weather or not you have to sacrifice other components. Video editing will make use of as much power as it can get.

As PCS sell custom PCs and laptops, we can't advise on self builds or competitor builds. You may want to check out toms hardware which is an excellent open forum.

The 6700 is the newer architecture 6th gen quad core i7. It's a great chip, and runs with the newer ddr4 RAM.

The 5930k is a six core extreme, it's fast BUT the added .3 ghz in speed costs a lot and makes it less worthwhile.

The 5820k is again a six core extreme and only just a little slower than the 5930, sweet spot for performance vs cost

More cores help with video editing and large sound files .

Regarding the pci-e drives, they're a whole different ballgame to normal ssd's. Just look at the rw figures, like 3 times the speeds.

Thanks for suggestions if the pcie ssd are that good may well go with one, will have another look at spec before ordering.

Hi,

For video editing it is worth finding out if the programs you will use can utlise the graphics card and if so, it is worth getting as good a card as you can afford. A GTX750ti will speed up renders dramatically over just using the CPU but if you can stretch to the GTX960 it will reduce rendering times even more. If the programs you will be using do not utilise the graphics cards and perhaps won't add that any time soon then the other option is to drop the card back to the GTX750 and put the extra money somewhere else.

As for SSDs the M2 SATA and PCI-E ones are quicker once Windows is loaded up. Surprisingly Windows 10 doesn't load the drivers to support the higher speeds of M2 SATA or PCI-E until nearer the end of the boot process, so boot times aren't much quicker than with a regular SATA SSD. When it comes to read/write speeds of files then M2 SATA and PCI-E are much quicker and read/write speeds are going to affect rendering times.

I've posted replies to a number of video editing rigs recently and provided a more in-depth explanation of each component part and their value in a video editing computer. You should be able to read those for more information by looking at some of my recent posts.

Spyder's suggested build is very good. A 4 core 6700k build will probably come out a little cheaper which might give you room to get the GTX960 but read up on the programs you will be using first for CUDA or OpenCL support.
