Will this work

I’m looking to build a PC for music production and a little gaming. I know there can be compatibility issues with building custom PCs so I’m just wondering if there is anything that strikes anyone as a no no in terms of compatibility

That graphics card is not going to be capable of running much. It really is meant for a video output and not much else. I would suggest a GTX 1650 or 1660 if your budget allows.

There won't be any compatibility issues using the configurator. That being said, it won't stop you from making non-optimum choices.

The above build isn't very well suited to your uses to be honest. I have a feeling that you're going to struggle with the budget level. So...

What is your budget? What software are you using? What level of music production? Hobbyist or professional?

I’m not a massive gamer so might not be that important. My favourite games are generally platformers tbh so I doubt they require too much power from the graphics card. I’m more concerned about the music production capacity. Basically I was all ready to order this until I was chatting with my Apple fanboy mate who pointed out that Macs generally last longer due to optimised compatibility etc. And now I don’t know what to do haha

I’m working to a budget of £1000 and want to be able to produce professional level music from a home studio so I’d be using something like Ableton or FL studio. I’m sure the specs are up to scratch but I’m worried that it’s a sub-optimal configuration that will render the system spent after just a few years. Is it better to just buy a Mac? The reason I drafted this build in the first place is because I was curious to see if I could build a PC that had higher specs than a Mac for the same price or cheaper. I discovered that yes I could, and was all ready to order it until the issue of compatibility was pointed out to me
As I’ve mentioned in a previous comment I can sort of take or leave the gaming side... it would just be a nice bonus.

It really depends on several factors:

- Maximum budget
- What games do you play?

I would be looking at an AMD system and, depending on your budget, we may be able to spec you up a 1440p system which will be substantially better than 1080p

Budget’s £1000 with wiggle room. The gaming is an aside. Music production will be the primary function of the machine, I just thought that it would be nice to play some games as well. Generally the games that appeal to me are simple platformers anyway. I’m basically trying to figure out whether I should just pay the extra and get a Mac which is certain to last me at least 8 years and is fully optimised.

A Mac would likely cover your uses quite nicely but I doubt you would get a meaningful one of those for £1k either.

Does the £1k budget include the monitor?

I'm really struggling to get just a meaningful tower inside budget. To include a monitor is a bit of a stretch for me to be honest.

High level music production wants a fast CPU, really fast RAM and a good level of quick storage. For longevity and future compatibility and upgradeability you want an X570 chipset. As you can imagine, for a good level of component comes a good level of cost.

A decent case is ITRO £50, just the operating system (Windows) is £100 and a monitor is going to be £100. That's 1/4 of the budget wiped out before we even put a hard drive in the system.

What figure are you arriving at? Maybe I can stretch to £1250 to account for the case, OS and moniter.

I can almost get there for that sort of money. Note that this build needs at least another drive to make it ideal, probably 2 to be honest. You would want a large drive for effects and a second fast drive for caching.

As much as 32GB would be great, it's just not feasible as there are so many other areas that need propped up before the RAM capacity.
