Just plugged an ethernet cable into my laptop but found its still using the wirelss. I disabled the wireless and it started using the wired connection.
I tried following the instructions on google but inside network connections i do not have the drop down menu for file or advanced settings?
Im using windows 7 64bit btw.

edit: i got onto the priority list and it says the wired connection is a higher priority but whenever they are both connected it uses the wireless.

You probably have your wireless connection set to connect automatically (it's a little check box when you first connect). If that was checked WIndows will always connect to your hotspot if it's in range. It's not a priority thing.

To stop Windows connecting automatically to your hotspot do the following:

1. Open Network and Sharing Center

2. Click Manage Wireless Networks in the menu list on the left

3. Click the icon for your wireless hotspot in the list (there may only be one)

4. In the menu bar above the list click Remove.

Windows will not now automatically connect to that hotspot. You can still connect manually of course but you'll have to enter the password again. Watch the little checkbox though, if it's checked you'll be back where you started!
