You have your HDD and SSD the wrong way round, the SSD should be disk 1.

Why would you recommend the 970 over the 290? i've been told as i'm only using 1080p monitors it would be a waste

Not a waste for demanding games at ultra setting it would be better also run cooler and less noisy than the 290.
