X99 + GTX1070 Liquid Series Build

Hey guys, I'd really appreciate feedback/thoughts/tips/advice on a build that I'm looking to get soon:

Case: Corsair obsidian series 750D
Spec: Liquid series high kit
GPU cooling: EK nickel for one GPU
CPU: Overclocked Intel six-core i7-6800k
Motherboard: ASUS Rog Strix X99
RAM: 32gb Kingston HyperX Savage DDR4 3000MHz (4x8gb)
GPU: 8gb EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 SC Gaming
SSD: 2x 480gb Kingston HyperX Savage
SSD: 1x 128gb Samsung SM951 M.2
PSU: Corsair 650w RMx series Modular 80 plus, gold

My budget (not including the monitor) is around the £2,750 mark, could be persuaded up to 3k for something awesome.

Also planning to hook this up to an Acer Predator X34A G-Sync monitor

I'll mainly be using this PC for high-end gaming, wanting high res and high fps to run modern games. I'll also be using cpu and ram demanding music composition software, needing large storage space for a vast library of samples.

So yeah, let me know if I'm doing anything dumb, and what you'd change and why - I'd really appreciate it!

+1 to the above, I would recommend getting a 1080.

Also will you really need all 32gb ram? Maybe consider going for a 16gb

If you want to get inside simply drop the 1080 for a 1070 as per your first config.

I'll explain my reasoning:

Of the x99 processors the 6850 is by far the best value IMO. It's a cracking chip that can be pushed really far with overclocking (4.3Ghz on 6 cores is going some).
Motherboard doesn't really matter THAT much at this level. The lower end one is fine but if your really want the ROG one then it's extra.
Predator RAM is a no brainer considering the price difference (£20)
1080 is THE card to have where you have a high end budget. Is the price difference worth it? It depends what you are after. I've added it as it's a beast. If you want high end VR you want at least this card.
With the storage I went with a 1tb WD Black drive. You don't need your storage drive to be SSD, the WD Black is an almighty fast conventional drive anyway and it's a good saving over doubling up the SSD. I additionally went for the 512GB Samsung SM951 drive as 128GB isn't enough IMO. 512GB will give you plenty of OS/Program/Game space along with plenty of room for pulling in your work files onto the desktop or whatever. It's the sensible approach IMO.
Silver warranty is a no brainer also.

Hope that gives you some food for thought :)

Also consider that an overclocked liquid cooled 6700k will game just as well as a six core x99 build and the same build would be several hundred pounds cheaper if you went for that option. There is simply no need for 6 cores for gaming. You would get the same gaming experience and save a big wedge.

I second this, the limitations on overclocking the new Broadwell-E 2011 chips isn't worth it and you will get more out of a Skylake chip that being said I wouldn't go for the Pro Gaming motherboard and I'd personally opt for the Maximus VIII Hero as the overclocking on this board is a lot more stable and you can push more out of it.

Not when it comes to music processing it won't guys. Bare in mind that this is going to be a multi-use machine. People seem totally geared towards gaming on here.

If the op wants to use high end processing software of just about any kind, multiple CPU cores will make a HUGE difference. Audio at the professional end uses almost as much power as video.

Though from what I've seen, most of the audio software people post about in their build requests on this site threads pretty poorly, doesn't use more than 3 cores for Audio, benefits more from per-core performance than having lots of cores such that OCed i5s outperform i7s, etc...

As for people being geared to gaming, the OP said:
I'll mainly be using this PC for high-end gaming, wanting high res and high fps to run modern games. I'll also be using cpu and ram demanding music composition software, needing large storage space for a vast library of samples.
So that's kinda legit in this case since thta's the main use.

This is true but a solid overclock on a 6700K will trump that of a 6800K even with the extra 2 cores.

The Broadwell-E 2011 chips are pretty bad for overclocking at this point in time.

Also as it's been pointed out, it will mainly be used for high-end gaming

Agreed on the 6800k, that was why I recommended the 6850k (it's the sweet spot IMO, when the budget allows of course). I doubt very much that the 6700k would manage noticeably more coupled with a 1080 when gaming, when doing other multi-core intensive tasks the 6850k will wipe the floor though.#

At the end of the day it's up to the op though. I'm a HUGE fan of the 6700k and 6700k builds, I recommend them all the time and very often spec builds around them, the 6850k is more purposeful when looking outside gaming though.
