You tube videos not playing?

Hi there,

I've been tearing my hair out for several days on this.:sweatdrop: When trying to play You Tube vids, the error message comes up "An error occurred, please try again later".
I'm using Windows 8.1 on a desktop PC + 8gb of ram.

I have done everything I can possibly think of including checking for latest drivers, ensuring Adobe Flash is up to date, disabling acceleration on You Tube etc, etc.
I've also checked other forums where there seems to be many with the same issue and also checked the advice there to no avail.

The issue initially started with Firefox a few weeks ago, so I reverted to chrome which was ok. Now YouTube will not play on FF Chrome and IE.
I have been able to upload a HD video to You Tube successfully and play it on a Samsung Galaxy Tab with no problems. I have also tried with my old XP laptop and have the same problem which also used to play YT vids without any issues.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

If anyone knows a fix, any help would be appreciated!

Well if it occurs on multiple machine, then it is unlikely to be a problem with one of the machines. It may be something to do with your router settings. Have you changed any of the settings on your router?

Have you tried any other video playing websites that use flash? I believe Vimeo or DailyMotion use flash.

Thanks for the replies.

Just tried Vimeo and DailyMotion without a problem.

I am going through the above posted previous thread at the mo https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forum...oblems-with-PC. Previously I have tried logging out of my YT account with no luck....however, just going through the above thread and clicked the posted YT link it worked when I logged out of my account but not when logged in! I wonder why being logged in or out would make any difference.

I'll try later to go through the Flash Player settings as suggested in the earlier thread and also carry on through the thread if no luck with that.

Also...when I'm logged out of YT and go to the YT icon in Firefox I cannot play vids. If I use a link as posted in the thread, I can play videos without a problem.
So using a link lets me play videos without a problem:confused:

Thank you Rakk, I was going to mention my thread.

It's very odd carpet guy that it started 2 weeks ago. Mine went upside down during that time too.

But my dad looked at it yesterday and he said to download Chrome and try that, and I can play Youtube videos with no problems. I can even play embedded files on here with no problems!!!

I had, and still have, an issue connecting Youtube with Twitter. It seems that if I click on connect, it doesn't do anything, but you can see the button being pressed.
But if I go on Firefox, I have no problems in connected accounts.

Something is going on and I don't know what.

I came across another Adobe forum thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/6232272#6232272

and followed these instructions:
"Use the Flash Player Uninstaller

Reinstall BOTH Flash Player plug-ins:

Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)

Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

Also, try Resetting Firefox "

After doing the above and first using the Flash uninstaller rather than using remove programs in control panel......it worked flawlessly:yes:

But only for 5 minutes :( So it's now back to square one

Which could indicate a problem with the latest version of Adobe Flash Player perhaps. Now I cant even see videos embedded on my web site.

If not everyone is experiencing the same problem, maybe it could be due to incompatibility issues.

I came to the conclusion that it's most probably due the internet connection and tried changing the DNS server address. There is vid on youtube which cured the problem but this didn't work.

So thinking back, my service provider used to be o2 which has now changed to Sky Broadband, as Sky took over the o2 broadband service earlier this year. I looked at the letter Sky sent me about the change over and it said the transition would be during February and March.
I called SKy this morning and they checked the internet connection and said that the original o2 router could well be causing the problem. So their sending me a new router this week. They also said they would call me next weekend to see if the the new router has fixed the problem.

Fishy.....did you used to be on o2 by any chance?

At the risk of going off topic to a certain extent,I too have had nothing but problems since the change over from o2 to sky broadband. They sent me out a sky hub and new micro-filters which didn't help.
The latest scenario, after an hour on the phone to sky yesterday and going through all the tests for about the tenth time is they are saying there is an external fault on the line and I need to contact my provider (who I pay the phone bill to) BT.
I seriously doubt this to be honest and thinking of changing over from sky brodband to somewhere else, but I think I may have been tied to a 2 year contract with sky, almost feel like just giving up with it now :(

I used CCleaner last night. I went back on Chrome and #outube videos didn't work?

Now back on Firefox.

Stupid browsers

Actually you should have said "stupid CCleaner". It's a wonderful tool which I use myself, but like all software it's basically dumb. If you tell it to clean the wrong thing you may have problems, as indeed you did. And I'm sure you know this but you should never use the registry cleaner in CCleaner, nor any other registry cleaners either. They do no good and can very easily do a lot of harm.

I didn't set it to clean the registry

I'm hoping with me it will be something to do with the DNS server but won't know till my new router comes. I can't change anything in my o2 router.

This is a video on how to change DNS settings on your pc if your having problems with YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1MvpKqgXJg

Also have a look at the description of the video which includes a link to Google Public DNS: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

I don't believe this fixes anything. DNS (the Domain Name System) exists only to map hostnames like youtube.com to IP addresses like 173.194.113.164 (that is the IP address mapping for www.youtube.com). That's all it does.

The advantage of using a public DNS server rather than your ISP's DNS server is speed. Typically you'll get an IP address mapping back faster from a public server than from your ISP because public servers are real DNS servers (with big caches), whilst your ISP is not and simply redirects your DNS packets to a real DNS server, and that takes time. So this "solution" will only work if your problem is caused by a slow (and I mean very slow) DNS server at your ISP. Otherwise this is just snake-oil.

Your correct ubuysa. I got my new router today and it was still the same. Thinking back again.....when I re-set Firefox earlier in the week it seemed to fix it temporarily.

So today I re-set all my 3 browsers, Chrome, IE and FF. I always use FF. I have been using FF all day but did not change any of the settings and left the home page set to FF rather than Google.

It seems to have cured the problem and has been running stable all day. I can log into my Youtube account, play vids and also add annotations to my vids which I've been waiting to do for ages. I can also play embedded video on my web site now.

I also noticed earlier in the week that Firefox would not allow me to clear history or cookies.....it just stuck there. So I guess somewhere this is possibly a browser issue.....but I'm not sure

Fishy....try resetting your browsers and leave them in the same settings and see if it works for you.

Well that's good news. :)

It would be worth looking at what add-ons you have enabled in each of your browsers, flaky add-ons are known to cause all sorts of issues. If this happens again, disable all add-ons and restart the browser. Se whether you still get the problem, if not then it's likely one of your add-ons.
