Hello everyone,

I am looking to replace my ageing desktop pc with a laptop, partly so that my husband and I can spend more time together in the same room!. I'm not new to computers but I am rather out of touch with the latest technology.

After much research I have opted for the 17.3" OPTIMUS XI.
One of my specific needs is a large display, easier on my eyes. If I could get larger than 17" I would but I suppose it wouldn't be a laptop then. I mainly use a computer for photo editing using Photoshop Elements, graphic design, occasional CAD design, genealogy research, and browsing of course. I am not a gamer. All of these interests are hobbies so the computer is not in constant use.

My existing computer is a Lenovo AIO about 12 years old with AMD Athlone processor and 4GB RAM. It's struggling now. I previously had a PCS computer before the Lenovo and loved it, so now I'm back here.
My budget is as close to £1000 as I can get it. Not a lot I know but PCS seem to offer better value at that price level.

I have a question about M.2 SSD drives - something I never knew existed until yesterday, but they sound impressive. I notice that they are often installed as secondary storage drives. Is that the only way they can be used as opposed to replacing a main standard SSD drive? And are there any disadvantages to having an M.2 drive?

If somebody could cast an eye over my proposed specification below and tell me anything I should change or improve on I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks in advance.

I'm not a laptop expert so am just giving an opinion on the spec you chose rather than whether it's the best laptop.

M2 drives are the next generation of SSD with significantly quicker speeds and are definitely worth getting as loading times on things are much quicker, as well as transfer speeds.

This is slightly more than your original spec but is better:

Basically, changed the RAM to faster and a pair (works better in pairs), added in an M2 drive but kept the 2GB total storage, removed Bullguard (it's poor and Windows Defender is fine), upped the warranty to Silver (only a Fiver) and added in the Dead Pixel Guarantee (in my opinion, it's essential for a laptop..but that's just my opinion)
Nursemorph,
Thank you so much for that, it's very helpful. I've spent so many hours looking at various machines and specs that I just ended up thoroughly confused!
