Zotac 2060 1 fan at full speed

Hi guys,

does anybody know why my Zotac 2060 SKU ZT-T20600F-10B one fan is spinning at full speed while the other one isn't spinning at all when a GPU load is only 4% (not playing games yet, just using a browser with 5 tabs opened). Currently it's the loudest thing in my PC and it's very loud.

Could be an issue with the fan settings for that particular fan I guess?... have you tried installing firestorm from Zotac to check it out?

Tried it, but left an impression that it doesn't react to any of changes in Firestorm. I googled a bit and found out that only some more premium Zotac cards support freezestop tech, but I think that's the full stop option at low temps. I should at least be able to test if a second fan working. Interesting that GPU load is only 3%, but 32 Celsius which seems high.

Just a question - do I need to install NVidia and Zotac gpu drivers or just NVidia? I only did Nvidia. Could that be the reason why fans didn't react to changes in Firestorm?

Only nvidia, the drivers from Zotac are just the nvidia drivers...

Aye not all cards support fans stopping completely - I'd suggest trying to have the fans set to a constant speed just to see how they go... I notice mine react a bit 'oddly' at the lower temp ranges (although mine don't start spinning till about 50DegC ish)... At low 'power' levels they also have weird behaviour (I figure this is to do with the minimum load the fan will actually spin up at)...

The problem is that GPU fans don't react to changes made on Firestorm? I used buttons save or apply in the right bottom and still not making changes. Does it require a PC restart to kick in the changes? Is there any other way control GPU fan speeds? I looked up Bios, but only the case and CPU fans are there to control, and also I use ICUE for that.

I'll probably just play Mafia game and see if the second fan turns on, will also look up the temps. Quick Google shows me a highest temp on full load should be 80 Celsius, so I guess over 65-70 Celsius second fan should definitely start working.

Well other GPU software(s) are available but its not something I've played around with - firestorm works for me (I have a 3080 though) - you could try using DDU to uninstall your GPU drivers and reinstall them to see if that makes any difference (although I'm struggling to think why it would...)...

Did you get the right version of firestorm? There's a version for the 20xx series cards I believe?

Thanks for the ideas ;) I'll try tonight DDU uninstall gpu driver through a save mode.
I've got a Firestorm from https://www.zotac.com/us/page/firestorm the section GEFORCE RTX 20 SERIES & GTX 16 SERIES, file named "ZOTACGAMING-RTX20-GTX16-FireStorm.zip". I believe that's the right one.

I'm thinking if Windows 10 updates could be related to any of this. I've done all the updates, ran over and over again to check but nothing new came up after I updated with the suggested ones.

@steaky360, @SpyderTracks

I uninstalled Nvidia drivers with DDU, restarted, installed again, but problem is same: only one fan at full speed, while the over fan is not spinning at all.

One thing I've noticed that a GPU fan is quiet (spinning slower) when I leave a PC without NVidia driver. I instantly saw the difference when uninstalled a driver and restarted. But obviously, for gaming I still need Nvidia driver, also, second fan is still not spinning and a GPU is getting 50 degrees when only a browser with 2 tabs opened is definitely something strange.

If I don't install Nvidia driver, Windows still does it for me automatically while I'm using the internet, so no option - GPU gets hot & fan kicks on full speed while the other one is not doing anything.

Seems like a hardware issue worth RMA?

I also noticed that in the GPU itself one connector seems to be empty and thinking maybe the second fan isn't connected there?

And also, one cord from GPU is loose and the loose part has 2 parts: 2 pins and 6 pins connectors while on this one it says "PCIe". I don't know, but I think what I've seen from videos, this can be like that? Some builders do a pig tail by connecting back to a GPU when there's a socket for that?

Played Mafia a bit, crashed in 30 mins 3 times as a GPU reached 65-70 Celsius, but only 1 same fan spinning while the other one is dead... Looks like RMA is coming, I'm now much more definite about it :(

I'd definitely get in touch for an RMA - fortunately you're likely to be able to get a replacement card sent out and just swap it for your card at the door (assuming PCS have stock... which is maybe not as guaranteed as I'd normally have liked!).

Don't know about the cable inside the GPU, could be something loose or there simply might not be anything there, you'd need to find a tear down or similar to have a look.

I wouldn't worry too much about the power cable - the 2060 is powered sufficiently from a single PCIe cable (there isn't even room for a second on the card :)).

Just a quick update regarding the above. I've dropped a message via my PCS online account and PCS got back to me very quickly - they agreed to replace my GPU, but because I'm not in the UK, I need to arrange a delivery myself. They recommended to use their partner FedEx but when I checked the prices, FedEx quoted me 76 Euro! Just for a shoe box size parcel! I've checked DPD - they apparently still don't do deliveries between UK and Ireland. Found another option, Irish An Post partner - they charge around 30 Euro - huge difference!

If I got that right, PCS will arrange and pay for a delivery of a replacement card only while I'll have to pay myself for a return of a current GPU. I know in the UK PCS do a bit different: courier brings a replacement card and you just had them an old one. Unfortunately, PCS said that's not an option for Irish customers due to a delivery being not within the Uk. - I'd say that's fair enough.

I'm glad PCS agreed that there is an issue with a GPU and the whole communication was very straight forward and the replies were lightning fast (y)(y)(y)

Ok, troubles in paradise again. Got a new Zotac 2060 around a week ago. Reinstalled drivers just in case and it all was ok, both fans worked fine. Pc worked without issues every day. GPU fans responded to a Zotac software and fans weren't as loud as it was with a previous GPU.

However, strangely, while playing a not-so-GPU-demanding Cities Skylines I experienced an unexpected black screen. GPU fans are still working, PC fans are also working, CPU seem to be working, but no image output in the monitor as it would be turned off.

First thought maybe a monitor is gone, tested by turning off a PC with a power button and turning a laptop on - monitor is working.

Opened a PC case, reseated a GPU, but same, GPU fans are spinning, but no picture. When I turn on a PC, I get a 1 short motherboard beep which is fine.

Any thoughts? Seems that I will need to replace this one again? 🤣

Have you checked the gpu PSU cables are properly inserted?

Cables at the GPU end yes, unplugged and plugged in back. You think worth checking a PSU end too? That's not very easily accessible.
Had to do it with my system a while ago. Not easy, not fun (especially with a small case like the 220T). But an essential part of the troubleshooting process, unfortunately.

Unplugged and plugged in the cables, didn't help.

Right, so doing RMA again.

Ok now, working, regardless of DP or HDMI and no matter what port I'm using.

Hmm, whatever. I'm happy it's working again. God knows what the hell it was 🤪

I guess it could be a GPU due to reached high temperature? I'll keep an eye. Or just a silly loose monitor cable 🙄🤣
