This might be a silly question, forgive me I'm new. I was planning on ordering a system today with a 7700X cpu. This 7800X3D looks like a good option though, if anyone knows, will PC specialist be offering them anytime close to release date? I'll wait if it's worth it.
It'll be released tomorrow. The smart thing to do would be to order today, and then upgrade your order tomorrow when it comes online. Or wait till the launch if you want the easier route!

You definitely want to go for the 7800X3D: it looks like an awesome part.

It does depend on use-case though. It wasn't particularly good in production workloads. Fine for gaming though and the power figures are excellent.

Sorry, I meant the x3D variants for me, gonna go for the 7800x3D I think, the efficiency and still being hugely powerful is an all out win for my requirements. The Plex server really doesn't require too much CPU at 1080p transcodes, but it will massively gain for gaming and would be fantastic value.

@Scott are you picking one of these up?

Sure am, hoping to get one on release tomorrow :D

You can be my private benchmark! Will you be able to test it with Plex or is that a separate system?
No, same rig. Can check it out no problem.

What sort of tests? I've never had an issue with anything on the 9900K so I don't expect much trouble with the 7800X3D, unless there's a way to stress it?

Yeah, that's absolutely true, even on my 4770k I have zero issues with Plex at all, so it's not really any concern.

Damn, I'm seriously excited by this chip, me wants me wants! Is yours on order then, did you get a pre order off Amazon?

I couldn't find any pre-orders anywhere unfortunately. Did they exist?

I'm expecting full launch mode at 2pm tomorrow so will be sitting with the finger on the button from around 1.30 waiting. Will check before then periodically just in case though.

Judging by the rediculously late review embargo, likely not.

I do hope they're not gonna do another paper launch, that would be really really stupid.

Holding my fingers crossed you get one of the first batch!

I think they switched on early, switched off... then switched back on again as they are available for pre-order.

Looks like a paper launch though, with no stock available anywhere in the UK until mid/Late April.

AMD are fools, they should have learnt from the 5800X3D

Stupid paper launches!! Can you imagine ordering a brand-new yacht and get told it's being launched only to arrive at the dock to be shown an artist's impression of what it will look like on the sea?

As an aside, given the number of people waiting for this CPU to release, I was expecting PCS to be inundated from the start....I ordered a system with this chip in over 3 hours after it went "live" and this morning found an email stating I was 6th on the list  Seems a bit wrong if you ask me
They meant 6 to the power of 10

I was on the OC forum and apparently they had 30 arriving by today, for the first 30 customers. There's an order for 470 arriving next week, with a further 500 ordered for delivery at the end of April (May deliveries).

From my timing I definitely missed the 30, but I think I'm safe in the 470 batch..... so hopefully I should receive late next week or early the following week.

Apparently there was a link put on Reddit where you could wishlist the part, and then immediately checkout the wishlist. They were receiving orders at 1.30pm, hence why there's no chance I made the 30 and I think I'm lucky to reach the 470 batch as it sold out pretty quickly before moving onto a May delivery date.

It shows you the sort of numbers shifting for this chip though. I would be amazed if PCS wasn't the same. Anyone after a gaming PC should be all over this chip. The only down side is the platform cost, but at least it's an investment for a few years.

I always like to think what he's saying when the thumbnail is shot.

In this one I think he's saying "take 2 bottles into the shower? Not me."

All joking aside, just watched it through, top notch as always from GN

The efficiency of this chip is quite frankly monumental, and I know I harp on about it, but it's a hugely important aspect of PC/Server usage that needs to be celebrated and this will only be more important as we go ahead. I sincerely hope Intel get on top of their current rediculous watt usage.

It does show off the strength of the 13600k as a really great all rounder for the budget. Superb for 4k where CPU is less of an impact in general.
