    UPDATE: Still not fixed but I thought I'd post the things I was told to try in case it helps others. 1. Disconnect power supply, any connected peripherals and remove battery. Press power button down for two minutes. Reconnect mains power supply and try to start laptop. This made no difference...

    About 18 months ago. It's been a great workhorse. Up to now I've only had to replace the HDD and increase the RAM. Because we have pets I've regularly taken the back off and cleaned the fluff out of the fans and heatsink vanes.
