Advice needed on a gaming PC

Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy a PC with these specs. The main purpose of the PC as you can probably guess by the title, is for gaming. My budget is £750 without a monitor, accessories or windows. Is this about the best I can get with my budget? Opinions or suggestions for alternatives would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply Keynes.

I must admit I didn't really consider an AMD processor or graphics card. I have a few questions regarding that spec you suggested:

1) How does the AMD FX-6350 Six Core CPU (4.2/3.9GHZ - 8MB CACHE/AM3+) compare to the Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-4570 (3.2GHz) 6MB Cache. Is the difference going to be significant for gaming or something not worth worrying about?

2) How is the STANDARD AMD CPU COOLER. I was under the impression that for lots of gaming, something a bit better would be required.

3) I also notice you changed the case to a slightly more expensive one. Is it just a personal preference or is it known to be a much better case for gaming pc's?

1- For more cpu intensive applications and a few processor bound games the i5 is better than the fx-6350. However an FX-6350 + R9-280x will be significantly better than the i5 + gtx 760. Most games are gpu dependant.
2- For an AMD cpu the standard cooler is fine.
3- Better case better cooling.

Thanks, I will definitely pick the case you suggested then. I do still have a few questions though, mostly relating to intel processors,

1) If I could push the budget more towards £800 would you suggest an i5 and gtx 770? (I read the difference between R9-280x and gtx 770 is not THAT big but the gtx is a bit cheaper). Sorry for going on about intel still just I am finding it hard to ignore all the stuff I read online about how the i5 is much better than its comparable AMD processor.

2) If the standard cooler is fine for the AMD cpu can the same be said for intel cpu's?

3) I also noticed that if I pick the cheapest motherboard; ASUS® H81M-E: Micro-ATX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, and add on the i5 processor and gtx 770, the price is under £750. Are these cheap motherboards worth it? It is highly unlikely that I will add or change things on the motherboard, at the very most I would probably just add more ram but 8GB ram sounds like its more than enough.

1- It is still a good choice as long as you don't compromise in other components.
2- I would get the triple copper heatpipe
3- It is a micro-atx board with less expansion slots and no choice to add a 2nd GPU.

1) The i5 is a better processor, no question of it, but in most games it won't make a noticeable difference. The gap between these is only going to be decreased in the future anyway, due to modern game programming. The difference between the GTX 770 and the R9 280X is going to be a more important one than that of the i5 / 6350

2) Yes, it will be fine with the standard cooling solution. Intel are not so brainless that they design products that don't function without aftermarket coolers.

3) You will be fine with the cheaper boards if you don't intend to add another graphics card or do heavy manual overclocking.

Thanks for the advice guys. I feel much more confident with the build spec that I will probably order tomorrow.

I'll stick with the i5 and gtx 770 since I am more familiar/comfortable with nvidia, the gpu is cheaper and comes with a free game that I sort of wanted too.
I don't intend to add another gpu and I've never overclocked anything so I'll go with the cheap motherboard.
