Ok, I don’t have a monitor yet. I am looking for a pc system for gaming and video editing but mainly video editing. Also the maximum I would be willing to spend is £1500. I hope that covers everything, thanks.

I think £150/£200, I know I need a monitor that adobe premiere pro would work well on but I’m unsure what I should be looking for. Thanks

Hi again,
I just wanted to include the information I missed out. Thanks for your help!

Monitor- I don't have a monitor yet but I think the maximum budget for it is £200, it would be a monitor that works well with Premiere Pro. I have seen one that is 27in, 100hz refresh rate and 2560x1440 resolution but I'm still looking around.
Use- mainly video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, however, I will also be using it for gaming; Baldur's Gate 3, and The Sims 4.
Budget- £1500
Advice appreciated, thanks!

So what's the budget for a monitor, without knowing monitor details its impossible to spec a system
Sorry, I didn’t click on reply to your comment, I just commented on the thread again. So I think the maximum budget for it is £200, it would be a monitor that works well with Premiere Pro. I have seen one that is 27in, 100hz refresh rate and 2560x1440 resolution but I'm still looking around. Thanks

I don't think your budget allows for a 1440p GPU (the 3060 is really a 1080p card), but higher tier Nvidia cards are expensive...although better than equivalent AMD cards for video editing.

But outwith that, the budget does allow you to upgrade to a current generation platform that is more efficient and has capacity for upgrades for 5-10 years...and with a small increase in budget you could go for the RTX4060Ti which will give you a better Premier and gaming performance (along with the benefits the newer platform provides).

Case
FRACTAL FOCUS 2 ARGB GAMING CASE (BLACK)
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 7700 Eight Core CPU (3.8GHz-5.3GHz/40MB CACHE/AM5)
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI (AM5, DDR5, PCIe 4.0, Wi-Fi 6)
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
16GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4060 Ti - HDMI, DP, LHR - with the exception of being able to use Frame Generation, the 4060Ti is worse than the RTX3070 - but the 3070 is £54 more expensive!
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/sR, 2950MB/sW)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Power Cable

I had actually forgotten the gaming aspect altogether :LOL:

As above though, you can't have it all so you will need to sacrifice somewhere or spend more to get the best of both worlds. The 4060Ti isn't even a great GPU for the price bracket, but there's nothing else in the space to cover your needs so it's the best option for 1440p entry gaming and media creation.

I'm always torn over Intel and AMD for video editing, as the benchmarks show how much of an effect Intel's Quicksync has on H264 encoding.

But it's less favourable when you take into account the 3x power requirements for 1.5x the performance.

Depending on the apps used, some workload can be offloaded to the GPU, but it's very app-specific on whether you'd get more CPU cores or a GPU upgrade (e.g. even going from a 3090 to a 4090 gives a 20% bump in Premier Pro benchmarks; 150% bump in VRay due to the CUDA core boost; but maybe only 5% in After Effects).

So comes down to speed vs efficiency. On shorter projects speed might not be an issue, and longer ones may be rendered overnight anyway when you'd want the PC to be quietly chugging away.

ETA: just rechecked some Puget Systems benchmarks and the 4060Ti is seriously underperforming in Premiere Pro, and is slower than the last gen cards, so for just video I'd go for the 3070...but this loses you the frame gen option in the 40-series GPUs. There is no real AMD option for the video side of things.

I think also, with a 360mm premium radiator, the 14900k will absolutely thermal throttle, there's no way to prevent that under an editing or rendering workload.

So you'd never get the available performance on a pimped out spec with a 360mm rad.

I really appreciate all of your advice with this as I’m pretty clueless and was just going off of what my brother told me (to go for intel) and my own research. It’s given me some things to think about and change before ordering, thanks for the helpful information!
