being ripped off?

ok, i was speccing a pc on here and i was seeing the price difference between a i7 960 and a i7 970 now as pcspecialist dont have a component pricing list i had to check on OC and CCL, a i7 970 cost around £450 and the 960 around £240, now the price diff betweeen the 2 is £210, yet when you on the custom build page, when you select a 970 from a 960, the price shoots up around £400 instead of the difference between the 2, so as i see it, we are getting ripped off.

Intel did a price drop last week, like most companies the prices will not reflect that until all the stock bought on the old price has cleared. Unless the powers that be decide to take a hit on them and drop it sooner.

Love how people jump on with these slanderous claims without actually looking into any facts first.
As far as I'm concerned, you're not going to get better value for money when it comes to custom builds than PCS.

The price difference on our configurator is very similar, are you sure you didn't select any other items?

PCS prices are very competitive, they may not be the absolute cheapest but they sell a quality product with excellent customer service and after sales support including this brilliant forum.
You won't get that level of service from ANYWHERE else so it's got to be worth a few quid extra.

I just tried the basic rig on the "Extreme Computers" section. At default, with a 960, it's £706 inc VAT - change the CPU to a 970 and it's £946 - change it to a 990x and it's £1336
