Blue Snowball Mic + Windows 8

Hey guys I've just received my new PC from pc specialist and its all working super - however my mic which I've bought off Amazon doesn't seem to want to work and after much researching I'm out of idea's - Its the Blue Snowball Mic, one of the new versions so it is definitely compatible with Win 8.

So I plug it in and it says "USB device not recognized" _ I've tried it on my Win 7 laptop and it says device installation failed, is there anything I've missed or I'm thinking that the mic itself is somehow broken ?

Cheers in advance

Did you buy it from amazon or from a seller on amazon? If it was from a private/business seller then it I have seen problems with fake devices being sold. I'm not familiar with microphones but if its a 'quality product' the fakers will probably have produced fakes and be selling them as original.

if you bought it from amazon then it may just be a faulty unit, send it back and get another one sent out. If it does not come with any software on a disk or a link to a website then it should just install by itself. For it to not work on 2 separate computers I'd say its faulty.

Its actually from amazon themselves so looks like I'll be returning it - like you said for it not to work on both somethings up - the light comes on when its plugged in but it appears no ones home

Yeah, if its throwing an error message the drivers might be corrupted or something. I'd just return it and get a new one sent out.

Blue say 'Snowball is plug-and-play and does not require drivers, not even for Windows 8.' So I guess you may have a faulty one.

'Confirm that the USB cable is not plugged in upside-down, on the rear of the Snowball. (If the USB cable is upside-down, the red light will come on, but the snowball will not be recognized)'

It will still have drivers that load on insertion, that's what I was referring to. But yes, the conclusion is the same, faulty.
