Build a Desktop for me... I dare you ;)

Hi All,

The time has come where my old tech no longer serves me well and parts are discontinued.

Therefore, I am in need of a new PC that has the following base products:
• ASUS Z790-A motherboard
• i9 Chip (Raptor Lake or Alder Lake)
• Graphics Card (Minimum 4GB)
• 1TB M.2 Storage x2 (One Primary, Second File Storage)
• 32GB Ram

The new PC will be used for advanced software development, studio music recording, video editing and general use.
Budget is between £700 - £1300

Surprise me!

Can I ask why specifically an i9 and why the Z790?

Trying to fit an i9 and a Z790 into this budget is going to come with massive compromises that will hurt the overall build so I'd want to understand why we're doing that before making a suggestion

A while back had to help my friend build his custom PC. He bought the ASUS PRIME Z790-P and an Intel i9 chip for his gaming setup. The performance was crazy fast, like nothing I had seen before.
I like the ASUS PRIME Z970-A because it has room for expansion if I want to keep adding more storage, RAM, and GPU later down the line, the Wifi is built in and the reviews seem really good on that motherboard.
If you feel that the i9 chip is overkill I am happy to consider an i7 and whatever recommendations you might suggest.

It is not a question of the i9 being overkill it, it is what you can get within your budget that gives a balanced system.

I mean putting an i9 on a PRIME tier motherboard which is the bottom tier ASUS offer by the way wouldn't be recommended. It's the bargain bin motherboard, PRIME at the bottom, TUF in the middle but it's high end then STRIXX at the high end with CROSSHAIR being the best motherboards ASUS offer

The i9 itself just straight up is barely recommended because it's impossible to cool, unless for very specific purposes it's massively outperformed by AMD chips which do so with much less heat and much much less power consumption

If we're talking gaming we also after factor in a GPU which will be impossible to get a good balanced gaming system with a CPU on the level of the i9 and a gaming capable GPU for £1300

For a build around the £1300 mark you're talking something like this to keep it balanced and allow you to make upgrades so that the build can last many years

Okay, well if I was to go back to the drawing board and highlight the key areas of what the PC is going to be used for, this is what they;d be:
• Music Production (Cubase Pro 12)
• Video Editing (Adobe Premier)
• Software Development (Visual Studio (C#, .NET Core/Framework), SQL Server Database, VS Code (Web Development))
• Web Browsing (Youtube, Netflix, ChatGPT, etc...)
• Office Work
I am happy to consider a fresh build (Based around Intel) that is within my budget but is powerful enough to run the above with ease plus more.
I am not a gamer, I use my PlayStation for big games.

Much appreciated for your time on this.
I am not familiar with AMD chips, what would this chip be equivalent to in Intel?
I should have said before that I won't be using this PC for gaming.

Yes I plan to buy through PCS like I have with all of my builds over the years

That’s just taking us to your account login, we’d need the full spec and the config link, just copy and paste
