Hi everyone, I'm building a PC that I'll be using for things like Maya and ZBrush, pretty much a PC fitting for a CG Artist

I am very new to this and my knowledge on building a PC is very low, I'm not quite sure I have a handle on this but I've taken time out to learn and understand, I've put together a list of things I feel fit what I'm looking for with some exclusions of parts I will be buying elsewhere due to my budget, it would be helpful if someone could review my quote and give some feedback

I have a budget of £2000 and I'm not looking to go too much over that price point, here's a list of things I'm plan to buy, It would be helpful if anyone could suggest solutions for the cooler, some advice would be helpful

Case: Cooler Master CM Storm Scout 2 USB3.0 ATX PC Case - £78.99

Graphics Card: NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2G GDDR5 - £381.59

3TB Hard disk: Seagate 3TB 3.5 inch 7200RPM 64MB Cache SATA3 Hard Drive - £89.94

A Cooler: I have nothing in mind for this at the moment because people warn me away from Liquid cooling, I was previously keen on Corsair H80i

Monitor: Asus PB278Q - £455.36

A side note; I would be buying the Graphics Card from eBay, apart from the obvious make sure it's not broken is there anything else I should look out for; can i still buy it even if it doesn't have the driver, do i all the accessories to instal it?

I hope I haven't been a waste of your time, thank you for your time

I've never used those programs so can't speak for the suitability of your build. However I would urge you to consider getting a new graphics card especially if its a 'workstation'. I understand you are trying to save money and are (perhaps) at the limit of your budget. But the last thing you'd want is for your expensive second hand graphics card to become an expensive second hand paper weight.

What you get with the card will totally depend on what the seller is selling with it, they don't 'have' to give you any of the additional bits and bobs that would have come with the new card out the box. However they should state what you are getting in the description. Best way is to contact the seller and ask them about it, why they are selling it, how old it is, what its been used for etc. etc. Always pay through paypal (buyer protection) that way if you get it and its already fried, you can go through dispute resolution easier.

I would doubt that the manufacturers (PNY etc.) would allow you to transfer the warranty for the gfx card over from the seller and as such you'd have no recourse for RMA's etc. If you get it and it works for a week (for example) depending on the seller, you might not have any recourse through eBay either.

Saying that, the quadro 4000 is approximately 750 from PCS so you are looking for one at roughly half price. That may be worth the additional risk to you? I'm not sure. Either way, I'd recommend going for the silver warranty from PCS - its a fiver and will cover all the PCS installed components in your rig giving you a RTB warranty.

I have a H100 in my rig and have had no issues with it, again if you were to get a liquid cooler I'd recommend getting it installed by PCS - that way it will be covered under the same warranty. The warranties that come from Corsair on the hydro series coolers are very good and they will help you should the cooler fail (they don't fail too often but it does happen occasionally). Of course, unless you are overclocking the CPU (you have chosen a 'k' model) you won't need liquid cooling and all of the standard air coolers will be entirely sufficient to keep your CPU nice and cool through normal use.

Thanks for the help steaky360, I was curious about how PCS deliver the products i select on the build do they ship them separately so I build it myself or do they install everything I've picked themselves and ship the rig?

They will install everything and ship it fully tested and functional.

Only time this might not be the case is if you have already bought your PC and wish to 'upgrade it' through the upgrade service. You can choose to get individual components shipped for you to install yourself.

They build it and test it with everything you have ordered and ship it built, you can then add your own stuff.
