Hi, Can someone just tell me if this would be suitable for my needs, :)

Budget: £900-1300

I need a high performance laptop, which will run with %90 of its ram being used on games, and will be on for 10-12hours a day with the games running, i also need it to be quite and have a decent amount of battery.

Can someone adjust the setting to get a similar performance but a slightly less price? :)

Also, i would appreciate it if you could take a look at my other thread, its in this section as well.

Umm, first thing I notice here is that there's a load of RAM, considering the lower-end graphics card in this laptop, you're never gonna be using 90% of that 8GB when you're playing games that that GPU can even handle :) Slight imbalance there. Also, could you let us know roughly what is your budget for this computer system?

Which laptop would you suggest then? D: which will have most of its ram being used.

budget: £900-1300
Also what do you think of the macbook pro

Also, what is the GPU? :S

GPU - another word for graphcis card, graphical processing unit. I think macbook pro is a pile of cack lol, its a rip off, like all macbooks. You pay for a glossy finish and an old Intel Core 2 Duo with integrated graphics or... an Nividia 8400M GT.

Something like this for your laptop?

Vortex i7: 15.6" Full HD LED Backlit Widescreen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glossy

Price: £1,291.00 including VAT and delivery.

With this, you get a GeForce 260M GPU, 4GB of RAm, and still an i7. Also upgraded the HDD from an 8mb cached drive to a 16mb WD Scorpio :)

Now, you can ALSO, downgrade to an i5 540 CPU and upgrade RAM to 8GB for £1300 if you wanted, but, that imo would only really be useful if you spent the little bit more on the GeForce 285M GPU instead. :)

thanks so much for that :) ill consider it, however i would prefer a 17" screen if possible, and i dont mind about the graphics, i just want to be able to run with alot of memory being used and a good processor ;o so ram and cpu would be more essesntial for me

thank you again

Why do you want all the RAM to be used? :p Thats not usually a great thing, and, only a very small selection of games use over 2-3GB of system RAM as most of the game is stored in the video RAM as it is being rendered. So, the better gpu you have the less system RAM will be used :p

What do you intend to use this computer for btw? If no gaming, then, yes, I can probably bring the cost right down and give you a widescreen, but, that will mean, NO gaming :p

oh, so the better graphics i have the less ram gets used? :s

Well, The reason why most the ram will be used is because i'll be leaving Game clients on, im aiming for 15-20 clients of a game all running at the same time, They dot take much space each but im guessing theyre total will be around 6 or 7 gb ram usage.. not sure if i explained it correctly - basically i'm going to be running games, more than 1 client at a time. :)

laptop would be used for mainly everything tbh, but mostly for gaming/leaving games on

Now I know what youre intended usage is (we went on teamviewer) :p

Something like this, if you can stretch the budget by the extra £43, would be a little beast.

Vortex i7: 17.3" Full HD LED Backlit Widescreen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glossy

yes, especially for your game clients, getting a GPU like this 260M would help enormously as the system memory can ALL be put towards running the actual clients, and the GPU can concentrate on rendering the graphics on each client (the video RAM will be used for this as opposed to biting into system RAM).

Pity you cant have a desktop all to yourself :p With £1300 I could spec a 24GB RAM monster for your games lol :p
