So I chosen the recommended vr ready pc and changed a bunch. Looked up online about the Corsair PSU and I'm wondering if I shouldve spent a bit more to get a better PSU. I'm expecting this to run anything but please recommend any changes i could make. I'm also probably gonna see if I can extend warranty.

I'm not a fan of the case, I always prefer Fractal Design or Corsair options. The case is a very important aspect of any build as this can be used going forward. People often tend to under-spend on the case and PSU when these are the parts that need upgraded the least.

Corsair RGB Case (iCue)
TMx PSU (550w would be enough bot 650w would cover a multitude of future upgrade options)
2060 Super if budget allows
SX6000 M2 drive in place of the sata SSD
Minimum Silver warranty

Those would be my changes. Everything else is perfect for 1440p gaming and multi-thread professional application use (presuming that's what you are aiming for?)

Thank you for the advice. I can only really afford the warranty at the moment. When I can I will upgrade the power supply. Cause I got it on finance I'm glad I mostly got it right. I'll upgrade when need be.

The R7 2700x is a waste. For gaming, there's no point to it over the 2600x really. If wanting a better CPU then a 3rd Gen R5 would be better than 2nd Gen R7.

Upgrading the PSU later is bonkers. If money is tight, why spend ~£50 now on a 650W VS series (that you don't even need) only to replace it with a ~£70-80 PSU later on? Very definition of a false economy there :)

Also you've not told us what monitor you're gaming on. If it's 1080p 60hz, the 2060 is a waste of cash. Or do you already have a VR setup?

GTX 1660 Super is more than enough.

with a faster SSD, better case, better quality PSU
With the savings you could up the CPU to an R5 3600x (but only if you are buying one of those 3 games anyway - not worth it for the tiny performance difference alone. Or add an AIO cooler. Or up the PSU to 650W (550W is already generous) Or pocket the change.

Pop the RAM down to 3000MHz (let's face it, the performance difference will be miniscule) and get the RTX 2060 Super instead. Or the AMD RX 5700 if you'd otherwise be spending £30-50 on one of those titles bundled with it.

Holy moly thank you so much for all the advice here. The monitor I have right now is a 1080p 60hz. I am looking to upgrade it someday down the line to a higher Hz screen. I'm also looking to get a VR sometime in the future as well. As you said this one is better, and I used finance, I can amend the thing before they start building. I will look into this thank you so much.

The question is, if money is fairly tight, how far into the future realistically?

If it's going to actually be a long while, you might be better off sticking with a much cheaper GPU. Buying a very expensive GPU now and only upgrading the monitor or buying new VR kit in (say) a year, you might find your GPU is a little bit dated by then and just doesn't quite deliver what you're looking for.. and that there are also newer, faster options at that price point on sale too.

If you mean you'll buy the stuff in the January sales, sure, but if it's going to be a very long while you might want to rethink the GPU. An RX 570 is alright for 1080p 60hz gaming, with medium-high even on demanding modern titles, and is £200 cheaper.

Or if you mean like a couple of years, a GTX 1660 Super is generously more than enough for 1080p gaming, at high settings and will see you right for a while.

Like I say, depends on the plan :)

January may be the time to get things. I'll see what options there are. Thank you for the help. Would want to get things sooner rather than later. Depending on the options 1660 super or 2060/2060 super may be the way.

Both a 1660 Super or RTX 2060 are fair options for 1080p 144hz (assuming that's what you're looking for).

These monitors are mostly around £200. But there are some cheaper options at around £180, with a few really budget level ones below that.

There is also this monitor which is 1440p 144hz

And is currently discounted to £220 (it's discounted to that price fairly often). For that one, the 2060 would be preferable. Or the RX 5700 even more preferable.

I've checked and I can't change 2700x to 3600. I've changed the ssd to the m.2 one and I've changed PSU to the txm 550w one. Wondering if I save a bit of money getting 2600x so I don't have to pay £14 extra amends for the case.

The R5 3600 is in a different configurator.

You could call PCS to discuss. You may need to cancel the order and resubmit,

If it's a lot of money to you, it probably makes sense to get the best system possible for your money. And with finance you'll be stuck paying for it for a while too.

Unfortunately now if I make big changes or cancel i might not get approval again and I need to pay amends so I think I'll be alright. I got the case, I improved the psu, the ssd changed and the warranty. Reduced ram to 2400 but I can upgrade that easy anyway.

DON'T nerf the RAM.

Seriously though. Why buy 2400MHz RAM, which you then replace with e.g. 3200 MHz RAM, which you could just buy right now? Major false economy as you are paying for something you already know to be obsolete. The RAM should last you for the lifetime of the PC.

If you need to save, drop the CPU to the R5 2600(x).

Or even drop the SSD. You can just add an SSD with no wasted cash/components. As opposed to buying RAM which you then replace with other RAM that was on sale at the time you bought the PC!

:)

Unfortunately I cant buy 3200hz right now however your idea for the ssd is quite a good one. I think I'll get rid of the ssd then and upgrade if I can.

What do you mean you can't buy the 3200MHz RAM right now? You mean the option has disappeared?

Oussebon

Get the 3000MHz RAM. You're not going to see a meaningful difference from the 3200MHz. 3000MHz is fast enough,

Buying slow RAM only to upgrade it later on is just crazy.
