Endless pre- production.

I ordered my PC on 16/07. At the time of purchase the estimated lead time was 7-9 working days.

My order went into pre-production on 22/7 and has stayed there ever since. I rang up on -I think - Monday this week for an update and was told that my order would be built "within the next 3 days". I expressed a concern that I am going away on 4/8 until 8/8 they said, no problem, they would set a dispatch after date of 8/8.

I have still kept an eye on the order since but there has been no change. I note as well that another post on the forums states that they ordered on 15/7 and theirs was dispatched within 8 working days.

I did make an amendment to my order a week ago and noticed that a message came up saying the external hdd I ordered was out of stock. I removed this from the order as I can always get one at a later date.

I presume that now I have a "dispatch after" date that my order has gone to the back of the queue but I can't help but feel a little bit concerned. I know that the 7-9 working days is an average and some orders will take longer but I have had no communication from PCS other than a generic email last week saying that some orders take as long as 7-8 days to go into building. I wouldn't have even known that anything in my order was out out stock if I had not been playing with the configurator. I think that more communication would be nice.

Hello there,

My apologise for the delay in your order, regardless of your dispatch date we continue with all orders in line with their queue position. The dispatch date request only comes into effect once it gets to the dispatch stage. As for why some other customers orders going through faster than yours is due to each different configuration being a separate section (so they have their own queues and builders) This applies to laptops, desktops, mini PCs and AIO units. Your order was printed off for production on the 30ths so should be built today, once built we will be looking at 1 - 2 working days for the completion of the order. I will keep my eye on it for you to see if there is any issues causing any further delays.

Also in terms of the external HDD, that would not have delayed your order as that is an external device.

Any update on this at all please? I'm still sitting at 14 working days pre-production. It's been a full week now since I was told my order would be built within the next 3-4 days. I have tried putting my order into the configurator on fast track and no out of stock components were identified. I feel a bit disillusioned to be honest :(

To update:

I called yesterday (7/8) to enquire about my order, and was told that the GPU I had ordered (GTX780) would not fit in the case. So they recommended that I switch to a different case, which I did. A few hours later my order switched to In Building and is still at this stage now.

I am curious why no one at PCS thought to call me to let me know there was a problem with my order, instead letting it sit for over three weeks with no update and no communication. Very poor show :(

Lost my confidence

I wish I had seen this before placing my order. Making the claim of 7-9days is wrong, for me, not flagging this up at time of order (i.e that its unlikely to arrive in that time) is a breach of contract.

I ordered a new pc for a work project and have a deadline and whilst I only did it last week (still in processing) but told now its likely to be ages.

If i have known about extensive fobbing off and delays I would have go to another supplier who could have given me a clearer guarantee on delivering.

I believe you accept the T&C once you place your order which indicates up to 30 working days to delivery the system (if I remember correctly) and the times are estimates.

You could try fast track if that's an option or raise your concerns directly with PCS. I hope you get it soon, I know the wait is very stressing at least it was for me.

Putting 30 working day into T&C's that nobody reads is a not the way to win over new customers, it just a way of PCS to cover there back and smacks of legal bluff.

Putting 7-9 working days as a selection to an order gives you the idea that it will arrive in that time? reading elsewehere others have paid for the speedy service but it never materialized.

If there are delays at the time of ordering, or its unlikely to arrive within that period then it should be highlighted before an order it placed to give the customer that knowledge to make the choice of whether to purchase or it or not?

I have some pressing work and this will cost me money and working relationships with my clients if a) it doesn't arrive promptly, b) if it arrives damaged as have seen elsewhere.

My order is now in the testing phase, I had an email today to say they expect it to reach me mid-week.

I actually don't mind delays if I am informed about what is going on.

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/delivery/ I can't see anything in here about orders taking up to 30 days. I don't remember seeing that when I ordered, or I would have been more inclined to go for the fast track option. It's coming up to a month from placing my order and I had really expected it to be here by now.

Just dropping in to say that the T&C mention 30 days in section 4, although I am negatively surprised as well about how long your delivery is taking
4.2 Your order will be fulfilled as soon as possible after your Order Confirmation and in any event within 30 days of the date of the Order Confirmation, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

I think they mean 30 WORKING days while I have been waiting 26 calendar days so far. And still, this isn't made really clear at the point of sale. 30 working days is 6 weeks or so..

And today my package finally arrived! :taz:

It's worth the wait. Still in the process of installing everything but once I've had chance to give it a proper spin I'll have to post a review in the show off your PC section :)

Argh :( I posted in the tech support forum but.. After only 2 days my PC has died :( after doing windows update now it won't turn on. Just switches itself on and off over and over. Guess it's back to PCS in the morning for an RMA :(

Try system restore from the OS disk.

I don't think that's going to be doable. I managed to get the disc drive open, and it went as far as the PC specialist screen, then BSOD'd and back to switching off over and over. Now I can't get the drive open again. I think it's hardware personally..
