Enigma II - Flashing power and battery light and battery won't charge

Hi,

My laptop power and battery charging lights have started to flash when my AC adapter is plugged in (which is a new replacement one that I had to get a couple of months ago from a different supplier since the replacement one PC Specialist sent me wasn't the right size and I was informed that you didn't have the right size in and wouldn't be able to get it in for a couple of months), and the battery won't charge. There's no flashing when the adapter is not plugged in. I have tried taking out the battery and powering on the laptop so as to reset the battery but that has not worked. If I take the battery out then the laptop works with just the AC adapter connected. The battery charging light also flashes when the AC adapter is plugged in and the laptop is switched off, so I presume the battery charges when the laptop is off, it just won't when the laptop is on. Is it just that I need a new battery (which PC Specialist are out of stock off) or could there be a problem with the laptop itself?

Thanks

Dave

Update:

I've just plugged in my battery when the laptop was already switched on and it seems to be charging fine (fingers crossed). I've also ran the battery test program which was advised to someone else with a battery problem (but I can't seem to upload the pictures). It seems that the current voltage is higher than the designed voltage 11.819 rather than 10.8. The adapter I got had the same input/ output as the original one: Input: 100-240V~1.6A 50/60Hz Output: 19V-4.74A Negative

Hi Vanthus,

I replaced the adapter with a generic adapter with the same specifications as the one I got with laptop, since the replacement one which I brought from PC Specialist didn't have the right size of connector and when I contacted them they told me they couldn't get the right one any more and I should just get a generic one. I'm going to try buying another new adapter anyway and hopefully that will work. Although the battery test had said that the current voltage is higher than the designed voltage (11.819 rather than 10.8) for the battery, when I looked at the battery itself it clearly states that it has a 11.1V rating, so I'm wondering whether it's actually as problem with the battery?

Well,It could also be the battery,my thinking was it would be less expensive to try another adaptor first.I'm assuming your warranty has ran out?
