First ever build

Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for reading! You're saving me from a splitting headache!

I was wondering if you could help me with this build. Is it any good?
My current monitor is the ASUS PG35VQ 35" 200Hz Gsync
I've never chosen parts for a computer and I'm completely clueless.
I'll be using it mainly for gaming and want to make sure I future proof it as much as possible.

Hope this helps!
Thanks again!

Thanks for replying!

At the moment I'm looking at around £4000 more or less.
Not really planning to stream anything if that helps :D

I would personally up the case to the Crystal 680x or Obsidian 500D, just far better cases imho.

I'd also up the PSU to the HXi variant

Hi! Thanks so much!
Looking good!
I was looking to get the rtx 3090, would that be worth it?

Not for gaming, there’s no performance improvement for gaming, in fact the 3080ti outperforms it in a lot of titles.

The 3090 is not a gaming card, the reason it’s so expensive is the extra VRAM which is used for video editing and data science.

Thanks for your quick reply!
I did not see the options for those cases during configuration. Any idea if I'm missing something?
And same with the power supply. The only thing I see with HX (no i) is the Corsair 1200W HX Series Modular 80 Plus.

Oh! I see, so I don't technically need the 3090 since I won't be editing anything. It's pretty much solely for gaming. Just wanted to make sure I can run everything at max and that I can future proof it as much as possible, so I thought the 3090 would give me a bit more time than the 3080. Clueless, like I said! Hahaha!

Just click on the configurator link at the bottom and it automatically configures it for you.

I'm guessing you may be on the overclocked configurator which is the incorrect one.

I noticed this build has 4 drives. Could I ask why? Simple curiosity. Trying to learn as much as possible :)

THIS.
So true! Peace of mind is something you can't ever ignore!
If you wanted to reduce cost, storage drives are something you can add yourself at any time very easily.

With PCS, they have an open chassis policy, so you're free to add any components or make amendments without affecting your warranty (so long as you don't do any damage in the process).

Adding a SATA drive is one of the easiest additions you can make in a build.

Thanks! Might leave the SATA drive for now since at the moment I don't see myself using so many TB!
That open chassis policy is amazing. My brain goes like "Make sure it's done and future proof so you don't have to touch it in years" but I keep forgetting that I could easily upgrade certain parts.

Could I ask you what's the difference between the Ryzen 9 and the Threadripper?
So many options and I barely know what each drive should be used for!

Threadripper is an HEDT part which stands for High End DeskTop, they're designed for heavy multithreaded workloads like semi pro rendering stations, or large database workstations, or data science, stuff like that. They're not suited to gaming as they have much lower frequencies.

5900x is a desktop part. Has higher frequencies but less cores. But for gaming, anything over 8 cores isn't really used yet, so the 12 cores in the 5900x is futureproofing. It's the sweetspot for a gaming rig.
