Gaming laptop 17.3" advice needed

Glad I made your day. And I guarantee you, I've given more talks to tech firms than you have. Hope that gives you a laugh as well.

That's easy for you to say. Yes, you are correct, I could start over. And I could spend more hours searching and waiting while my current laptop continues to regularly crash because of a hardware problem. My choices in France are limited by keyboard and language preference, and others didn't have stock for the sort of laptop I desire. There was one other PC customization firm I came upon. but their prices were unacceptable. I just think a firm like PCS should have a better approach with dealing with customers, a topic I know about as I have published several books on consumer behavior, brand loyalty and connecting with customers. But as you say, I could easily cancel and go elsewhere.
You're clearly not happy with PCS as a company so going elsewhere would seem your best option. I bet that's in one of your books somewhere?

It is true that because of the insane demand for laptops and PCs during a prolonged lock-down, coupled with a worldwide and critical shortage of electronic components caused by the same lock-down in the Asian countries that make these components, PCS (along with most other system integrator companies) are unable to obtain reliable and consistent supplies of the parts they need to service their customers in the way they would like. This unreliability means that they have no idea when stocks of the thousands of parts they use will arrive, nor how many units will be in each delivery. The pre-COVID just-in-time delivery system on which their business was built has collapsed.

The knock-on from that has of course been an exponential increase in the volume of calls, emails and live chat sessions they have had to handle, as irritated customers (like you) seek to find out what alternative options they may have to get their order delivered sooner. In order to service that increase in calls/emails/etc. they have taken on large numbers of extra customer care staff, but in an environment as technical as this is, new people take some time to be properly trained before they can be effective.

I'd suggest that your next book should be about customer behavior and expectations in the midst of a global pandemic. Perhaps then you'd have a better appreciation of the challenges that companies like PCS are facing right now?

Oh and a tip; truly smart people have no need to tell others how smart they are. :)

I'm retired and no longer writing books, and have now turned to other pursuits. I appreciate your interest in my career(s), and your sincere interest in my computer problems, whoever you are. Your assistance has proven immeasurably helpful. I hope you know how much I thank you for it. As for the books, you're the experts - you can write the next ones.

To be fair it wouldn't surprise me if @ubuysa wrote the books you read in college.

This is such a teenager response :ROFLMAO:

I'm sorry, I know I'm not helping but I do find it truly hilarious.

I love the fact that you edited the post to make it sound more mature while leaving in the obvious immaturity of "no you're the idiot".

OMG, too funny.

After two months of waiting for my Optimus 17.3, I have now been informed by PCSpecialist - after contacting them - that it could be months before the chassis arrives and that they are no longer even selling the model. It has been suggested that I find another model and reorder. Let that sink in for a minute.... Now, my question is - what can you advise as an alternative?

My Optimus configuration can be found here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...p-17-3-advice-needed.78495/page-2#post-569453

In short: 16GB RAM (2 x 8 GB)
1st HD - not required
1st SSD - 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO lus M.2
2nd SSD - 500 GB Smasung 970 EVO Plus
external DVD-RW
US keyboard
Windows 10 Pro
US language

The Optimus has re-appeared on the UK site - even with an AMD processor as well now.

Recoil appeared a few days ago and whilst not a new name, is a new set up as it includes the 30xx series GPUs, however the Optimus and the Vyper I think must be some additional stock arrived of the older chassis as they only include the 20xx series and 10xx series GPUs.
