Hi all...

Firstly, great site, loving options / clarity / forum members...

And I'm going to be spending £2k+ on a PC very soon (moving away from consoles)

I have 2 questions though...

a) will NVIDIA be releasing something better than the Gefore 690 anytime soon? (i.e. March time)
b) will Coolermaster be making anything better than Cosmos 2 anytime soon?

The case question isn't that important (because it looks funky, I'm just aware it's over a year old now...)

But will there be a 780 graphics card this year and should I wait for that?!?!?

Thanks!

:)

What's your intended use? Is it purely for gaming because it seems a tad overkill if it is.

I definitely wouldn't recommend using the standard CPU cooler. I'd at least upgrade to the triple copper heatpipe.

The 2400mhz ram will not perform much better than the 1600mhz unless you plan to overclock so that can probably be downgraded.

If it's purely for gaming an i5-3570 will perform on par with an i7. An i7 only really comes into it's own if you plan to do a lot of rendering/editing.

I can't comment on if a new nvidia card is coming out but either way the 690 will be more than enough for a good few years. Are you planning to have a triple monitor display or is this just for gaming at 1920x1080p?

This build looks about £800 too expensive for a gaming rig in my opinion.

I'd go with the i7-3770 as that'll still be future proofing your build. The i5-3570 is more than enough if its just for gaming though.

Are you planning on gaming in surround or on one monitor? If surround is your choice then it might be worth considering the 4Gb 680's in SLi as opposed to the 690 (which is only 2Gb per card).

nVidia will be releasing the 700 series soon I would imagine but I've not heard anything solid yet.

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses!!!
:)

It's going to be purely for gaming, BUT, I do want to start video editing, etc.

I think after a bit more research... it's looking like this - I've reduced it a bit more, wadya think? (and thanks again!!!)

It's still working out at about 2.5k - which is kind of what I expected...

But my thinking, in particular with the 690 graphics card is that it's going to be pretty much future-proof for at least 3-5 years - Star Citizen, etc. should be no problem!

A good chunk of the cost is warranty, etc. which happy to have a bit of piece of mind on...

Also, forgot to mention...
And this might have some bearing for some...

I'm just planning to hook this up to my HD TV... so no double / triple monitors...

How come a BluRay + DVD writer and a separate DVD writer? Or am I reading it wrong?
He has reduced it down to one optical drive, but when you posted the question, post #8 was in the moderation queue so you couldn't see it :)

Also in conjunction with this...

I'm thinking of getting a Logitech G510 keyboard, G600 MMO Mouse and one of those hand controller G13 thingummies...

Good choices do you think?

;)

(honestly, I can't ruddy wait to make the move, so disenchanted with annual iterations of games that lead you by the hand based on an unreal engine that's about 10 years old...)

A few more months to save up!!!

:D
