HDMI faulty, so using DVI->HDMI cable - good or bad?

Hi all, I recieved my new PC and plugged it all together - connected the HDMI output to my monitior - blank, nothing. If I moved/wiggle the cable slightly then it works - but the slightest vibration causes the HDMI to fail.
So I brought a DVI to HDMI cable, DVI at PC, HDMI at Monitor.
This works well - so the question is, am I losing anything using DVI to HDMI instead of HDMI to HDMI. I am using a soundcard to external speakers for audio.
Any comments appreciated.

You will not lose anything quality wise by using DVI to HDMI.

However if it is the cards HDMI port causing the issue and not just a duff cable that does need addressing.

You'll also get the same picture quality just using DVI>DVI so no need to use the HDMI adaptor if your monitor has a DVI input.
