Help needed - checking gaming laptop spec

Hello (first of all, as usual, my apologies if i do some english mistakes)

So, i'm asking again for your help to check a laptop spec for a friend of mine because his is dying

The laptop will be used for gaming (not sure about the latest game, but some that came out last year) with a good quality and "professional" writing.

The max budget is 1600 euros including vat.

If gaming, the 32GB RAM isnt going to gain you anything, so I would drop that to 16GB and look at improving the storage.
M.2 drives give a boost to the operating system with their speeds, and help reduce loading times. With a 500GB OS and programs drive, you then have a 1TB games drive, and easy access to add more storage (SSD or HDD) should you want to at some point in the future.

I dont think the fast track will gain you much, maybe 5 days at most with laptops?
I think they are still moving quite well so possibly 8 or 9 days to get built then few days shipping (which you would still get caught with on fast dispatch).

Odd you cant choose silver on the french site...not sure what that is.

First of all, thank for your return.

About the 32 GB Ram, I took this option because I know that, sometime, he boot 2 games at the same time, so I tought he may gain something from this choice.

For the storage, I heard you, but, as he not very ... techy (let's say that :) ), I think he'll do the old way hard drive, one disk to install os, programs and games, and one disk to save everything else.

Lastly, you really think that he would not gain much time with the fast track option ?

About the French warranty, if I'm not wrong, it's mandatory by law that constructors have to have a return policy for 2 years (something like that)

Personally I would swap out the 870 QVO drive for a faster M2 - the PCS 1TB is good value for money but if you can afford to stick in the 1 or 2 TB Samsung 970 evo plus. He will love you forever. Lol.

I tried to do this on my phone but it’s taking me to UK version of the quote so messes it up.

Also running two instances of games isn’t beneficial on a laptop. 32 GB will help future proof it a bit but 16GB will suffice. Leave at 32GB if he is ever likely to do a lot of photo processing or large spreadsheet / calculation work etc.

Running two game instances on a laptop will / May result in overheating, throttling of the GPU/CPU and then poorer performance if they are both high end games.

I would get dropping the M.2 to a SSD if were an incredibly tight budget, to fit it all in, but I should think the M.2 drives are going to be harder to install a new one (it will depend whre it in on the motherboard). Whereas if the drive compartment is empty on the case, should you need more storage, its very simple to then just slot any drive in, HDD or SSD.

The price difference between the SSD and the M.2 Corsair SSD is less than 30 euros, and the prices are going a bit mad atm, its gone up by 300 euros for the build so im not sure whats going on...

I should of saved it as a quote

Very fair point, it will burn out a laptop much faster....
If its not for you, its for someone else, i'm assuming a kid?
Does it have to be a laptop?

So, if I do the ssd change (money wise, it does not change the already ultra stretched budget that I had) it's all good ?

I know, for the game, that's ot not really good, but it's happened for a short time (each time)

Strange re price as I thought that was just me because it went to UK site and was up at nearly £1600. Try rekeying in to french site.

Im not sure why prices have shot up in the last few hours, it was 1450 euros so within the 1600 andd now its saying 1750 ish
I would watch prices for next day or so, something has changed

They build here, regardless of where the order is from....

With the site set to being france, and prices in euros, 1520 Euros with the M.2 setup and 32GB RAM still.
But i'm still not convinced by the 32GB RAM, I say teach them to respect the kit and close a game before opening a new one, the laptop is expensive it should be looked after!

Sorry to hear that but some more advice then if always playing in bed (and even to anyone with a gaming laptop really) then buy a cooling pad for underneath it as well. A laptop size stand with big fan(s) in that goes under it. Laptops ventilation includes fans underneath to bring the cool air in and vents out to the sides. If the bottom is blocked by a duvet or something it will overheat very fast.

Oh, you had put 1600 euros budget, but ok.
I would still favour the storage over the additional RAM though.
