Help Needed for Noob

Hi all,

I am venturing back into PC gaming and I'm really out of touch (not that I was ever really in touch at any point previously).

My PC is 8 years old now and doesn't really cut the mustard anymore - I have posted the specs for this at the bottom of this post, underneath the current spec I am looking at. Maybe this could be upgraded I don't know?

I am looking at buying a new custom built one and would preferably (although not a must) like a smaller PC so it can go in my living room.

I want it to be fast (like, instant fast), quiet, and able to play any game I want, with no upgrades needed at least for the next 5 years (not asking for much right?).

With that said I've tried different combinations of parts and keep coming up around the 2k mark.

I am happy to pay this if it is the only way to achieve the above but some of the parts may not be right and I really don't know what I'm doing.

My preference money wise would be more around the <£1500 but as I say if it's going to run like s**t off a shovel then I'm happy to spend it knowing that it will stand the test of time.

Also, I'll be honest, I'm not really a fan of this case but the only other option was very limiting due to it's slimness. As long as the case isn't massive I would be happy to go for a bigger one.

Also, also, if you think you've noticed something and are thinking, "oh he's probably done X because of Y", please don't underestimate how poor my knowledge is when it comes to this stuff. If I have left something out you think I need, or included something I don't, point it out because I really am that stupid. :)

This is what I have gone with to combat the size but it's very different to what I had the other day due to constraints caused by the size, hence why I am open to bigger as long as it's not a huge eyesore in my living room.

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/amd-vs-intel.72675/#post-530078 have a read of that chris amd is pritty much the new standard also what monitor or tv will your new system be paired with for example 27 inch 1440p 144hz monitor
Sorry I tried to edit my post after I realised I neglected that info but it didn't work for some reason.

It will be connected to my LG OLED55B9PLA 55" Smart 4k Ultra.

I can't seem to find the hz but it is 55", Resolution 3840 x 2160 pixels. It also has HDR.

Are you looking to play games at 4k level? If so, then you need to up the GPU to the 3070 at a minimum
I am yeah. All the better GPUs were Pre Order Only. I'm not sure I can do it with this size case. I thought it may be an issue.

Is the CPU overkill for a gaming PC, bearing in mind what I said about instant response all round?

Whats your budget and uses? Just gaming?

AMD gives a lot more bang these days (not even just for the buck... they literally killed intels 10th gen with 5000 series)

Hi all,

Will this case allow for enough airflow and is the cooling good enough, or are the two extra fans overkill?

The reason I've chosen the case is because it will be going in my living room so don't want a big one.

Any other suggestions with the build are appreciated.

Obviously I won't be ordering any time soon while I wait for the GPU. Gives me time to save I suppose 😅

In all honesty, it is a really bad built.

AMD wipes the floor with Intel, especially the higher core chips. There are various articles on the forum, about Intel vs AMD.

AMD cpu are far better these days and you will get more for your money, probably need a better cooler and also look at the warranty options, £5 extra for 1 yr collect and return instead of 1 month.

Hi there, we keep on suggesting AMD builds but you keep coming back to us with Intel builds. Would you be able to read this thread and try again with an AMD build? Also what’s your budget and what will you be using the PC for? I assume the TV hasn’t changed?

Apologies I didn't get a notification for this.

Yes it is for gaming and streaming mainly.

Please see my latest post. I don't really have a budget per se as I just want the best possible, that will last me for years.

I will also need another around 2/2.5k that can play anything and last a good few years as well.

I appreciate your help.

Apologies I didn't see your reply until after I posted this.

Yes the TV is still the same.

This is what I’d look at for your uses. The 500D is a great case that isn’t too large. The Ryzen 7 is a fantastic CPU and will comfortably handle Gaming and streaming. For gaming and streaming 32GB of RAM will be ample. For your TV you’ll be looking at a 3080. The waits are very long so if you’d rather not wait you could pay up for the 3090 or have a look at AMD’s offerings, although their encoding for streaming isn’t as good as NVIDIA’s, also the ray tracing is a little behind if that’s something you’re interested in. For storage there’s a super fast 500GB SSD for windows and your programs, a 2TB SSD for all the game storage you’ll ever need and a 2TB HDD for general files like photos, videos and documents. The RMx 850W PSU is a no brainier for this build and will last for years. The Capellix cooler is a a fantastic top of the line cooler and will make light work of the 5800X. If you need WiFi then the AX200 is a must, if not it can be removed entirely. The antivirus has been removed as it’s known to cause issues and the silver warranty is well worth the £5

No worries. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I noticed I wrote 500D in the text but have 4000D on the spec. The 500D is a case but it’s huge and not as good as the 4000D, which is what I meant to write 😂

Oh and for another £40 or so you can upgrade to 3600mhz RAM which will help with the streaming. (That’d take you about £20 over the £2500)

Cool cheers. As I say the £2500 was for one of the PCs (my gfs). I don't really have a budget for mine but obviously don't want to spend anything unnecessary, as would've been the case without your help!

Does it have to be liquid cooling? I'm not convinced by them but the fan cooling options appear to be minimal?

Does it have to be liquid cooling? I'm not convinced by them but the fan cooling options appear to be minimal?
Why are you not convinced by them? The liquid cooling is just the AIO. It’s a sealed unit and only requires dusting of the fans every month or so like an air cooler would. They give fantastic temps and the H115i will keep the 5800X icy cool. Over recent years they’ve really worked on the quality of them so they’re pretty much bulletproof (they don’t leak) these days, especially the Corsair units. Damage can sometimes be caused in shipping, so I’d just double check for leaks when you first turn the PC on and first time you put it under load, if you have no leaks then then you’re good to go.

We generally don’t recommend the PCS air coolers and the Cooler Master 212 probably isn’t strong enough to keep temps comfortable with the 5800X. If you’re really not wanting an AIO, you could look into installing your own when the PC arrives. Noctua are generally known to be top of the line air coolers.
