Hi.

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-A320M-S2H: Micro-ATX, AM4, USB 3.1, 6GB/s

Would I need to get other firmware updates also?

Thanks.

What OS is it running?

What specifically do you think needs a driver/firmware update? Is there a specific problem you're seeing with a specific component that an update might resolve?

To start...
However, I hope you now have more storage as the 128GB listed will probably be tight for even basic uses.

Nope. I'm running Debian (GNU/Linux). ;-)
The only firmware you need to be concerned about is:

Bios - From the gigabyte motherboard page above
GPU VBIOS - from your GPU manufacturer page for the specific model
Maybe TPM although I don't think Linux uses that yet - would be from the gigabyte motherboard page

You need to get PCS approval before flashing the BIOS

There's no issue, I'm just wondering if there's any firmware that would be advisable to upgrade. I was thinking that PCSpecialist might provide the files.

Right after getting the Desktop, I added my own 2TB SSD from my previous PC.

Thanks, I'll check out those hardware links. (y)

All seem to be for MS Windows only. 🤔

Hi ST. Sorry for the late reply, I've been v. busy. Yes, I looked but saw not option for Linux. 🤔
As already said, firmware is OS independent, has no relation to what OS you're using. I think you're looking at drivers rather than firmware, or are you looking for drivers? Linux doesn't work like Windows, drivers are generally baked into the kernel, but assuming you know how to manage Linux if you're using it?

Ok. It seems BIOS is the only thing I need. I looked further. My BIOS version is F54d. I noticed more updated ones here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-A320M-S2H-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios - F56b being the newest.

Would I need to update each one or can I jump from version F54d to F56b?

Edit: It looks like I'm out of luck. The .zip files contains a Efiflash.exe. I don't see how I can update from Linux. :-(

The exe is just the windows program to install it, it's has no relation to linux.

On linux you'd have to flash it via the mobo outside of OS as Linux doesn't support OS flashing

On Gigabyte boards that's called QFlash, there are directions in the manual

The BIOS file is the A320MS2H.56b file, that's all you need to flash.

But you need PCS permission to flash a BIOS otherwise it voids warranty. And BIOS doesn't need to be updated unless there's a specific feature you require that he update has, otherwise it's not going to be of any benefit.

If you're system is working fine, then don't update the BIOS, there's no need to and any BIOS flash comes with the risk of bricking the board so should only be done when absolutely necessary.

Hi SpyderTracks. I'll play it safe for now. Cheers. 👋
