I'll go along with that thoery - it all fits.

However, many attempts to 'resume the configuration' and another few attempts to repair the Windows install (using the DVD) were unsuccesful.

But, it's all running now

ok thanks for the feedback, i am responsible for the images and processes that happen during deployment so it does help to get a clear picture.

Once the OOBE is interrupted it is unrecoverable and means a reinstall like you experienced and does cause a few headaches, although like you also experienced if there’s no display, whatcha gonna do? reboot, most people do.

I just need to sort out a replacement graphics card now - one with DVI-I
No reply to my emails for a while now though.
