Is this normal? (Overclocked PC)

Hello again,

I've never had an overclocked machine before so this might sound stupid.

I've downloaded CPU-Z and at the moment whilst I am browsing the forum the core speed is at 1648.3, then I downloaded Prime95 and ran a torture test (lots of everything setting) and it goes up to 4326.7.

I was under the impression that the core speed would always be up to 4.6ghz when I purchased my PC or is that the (safe) limit it can go up when under stress etc gaming?

Probably sounds silly but I thought its best to ask as I've seen a few lads posting there scores and just thought they were always that way :tt2:

Yeh its an effeciency thing.. It adapts the Core speed to the task at hand

This happens on normal machines too :)

If its a sandy bridge then put in its simple form:

The overclock is not on the core speed of the CPU its on the parameters for turbo boost. So the speed will go up and down on use and you are tweaking the range.
