Looking for opinions, suggestions and advice on my first PC Build *UPDATED*

*Updated to tidy thread up*

Not looking for a whole new build to be made, but suggestions on what would and wouldnt work well with what I have already, and whether or not my build meets what I'm after? :)

Looking at a budget of up to £1800 for the tower.

Looking for a quiet build that focuses on speed and performance, but also looks good graphics-wise.
(I'd rather play a game that didnt freeze up and looked a bit uglier than one that looked like real life but constantly broke up).

Although it would mainly be used for browsing and documentation, I'd like it to be capable of handling any game I could throw at it if possible.

Needs to be able to easily handle multiple tabs/programs without slowing down.

I'm looking to make a mix between high performance but not eye-wateringly expensive...

I currently have a laptop with a i7 8th gen core and decided not to go with some of the more budget ryzen chips as the benchmark sites were saying it performed under my current chip (which I have personally found awful for gaming and speed).

For example, I've got a few older pc games that I've never been able to play because they're so big that the laptops just couldn't load them (even with the large memory, ram and i7 core I have in my laptop at the moment.

Any advice etc is appreciated! :)

Thanks in advance!

Hey, welcome to the forums! We could definitely spec something up for you, and definitely change a few things around on this. Please could you let me know your max budget and the monitor(s) you'll be pairing it up with, along with the link to reconfigure this for you? It would be at the bottom of the configurator, select to post the specs to the forums and you'll be given a link :)

You also mentioned about your ultra-fast broadband - what speeds are we talking about here? The WiFi card you've selected supports up to 1000Mbps at 2.4GHz so it may be slightly overkill :)

Hi, thanks for your reply:)

Our broadband is saying 67-73 Mbps XD how on earth do people get 1000!??

The WiFi cards were something I wasn't too sure on the difference of, as well as the USB port options.

I'm looking to get it as cheap as I can but with the best performance so probably looking up to 1500 if possible, but less is great and up to 2000 is do-able :)

I think essentially the most important thing for me is the ability to do multiple things without slowing down and fast response time.
It would be nice to have it look nice, but I'm more bothered about it running better than looking better if you get what I mean?

Here is the link:

Please find the monitor I was intending to use attached.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist which is the problem as I look for premium performance even though I don't really play pc games due to not having one capable as of yet (I've only had laptops and they've always pretty much failed to handle any type of old game nevermind new). I think I like the idea of having the option to play them without any problems or speed issues, if I did want to.

For example, I've got a few older pc games that I've never been able to play because they're so big that the laptops just couldn't load them (even with the large memory, ram and i7 core I have)

67-73 is not ultrafast, that's just standard openreach cabling fibre broadband. You can get triple or quadruple figures by paying more for FTTH with companies like virgin, if they supply your address.

What is your max, max budget for the PC and monitor together? State a number and don't sit on the fence.

Added a 3070 by mistake which is more for a 1440p monitor

X570 aint really needed in my opinion for a 5600x cpu but others may disagree

850rmx for future upgrades

Case has all the fans you need tho would have to get a external dvd
Tidy up storage
250 980 pro for operating system 4tb hdd for movies music etc and left your 2tb corsair for games

Reduced ram to 16gb as thats all games really require at this moment in time tho can go up to 32gb if you play heavily modded games or games like total war etc

Mistakingly added a 3070 tho spending so much of your budget on a rog strix variant takes away from the rest of your build
Left standard cooling 5600x isnt a particularly hot chip but if u feel more at ease can add cpu cooling back in :)
Silver warranty for £5 extra covers carriage cost for a year rather then a month
Removed dedicated audio soundcard isnt needed for gaming onboard sound has come a long way

For your monitor you don’t need a 3070. A 2060 would be fine. I would up the size of the Samsung 980 .Pro to 500MB. I don’t think you are likely to need a card for USB ports. I would pick an Intel 670p over the Corsair m.2 due to better write endurance. Is 4TB of HDD necessary?

I dont think id need 4tb no,
Probably more 2tb max, but I was wanting to use ssd because I thought it is slightly more reliable? I've always been worried about them going corrupt etc...

also, is there a way to choose WHICH m2 they put the os onto? At the moment its just asking me if i want it on ssd, or m2. ssd, but I have 2 different m2 ssds..?

Removing some of the unneeded and branded components will give you a much better balanced build.

Were you going for a quiet build specifically? I see your case choice seems to indicate that. If not TD500 is a fantastic case, it has fantastic airflow, if you're not a fan of the RGB it can be turned off. Swapped down to the TUF B500 which will be ample for the 5600X. For a gaming system, 16GB is the sweetspot bar a few games. swapped to a 'standard' NVIDIA card that'll most likely be a Palit, Zotac or Gigabyte then gone for a 3070 which will pair nicely with the monitor I'd recommend. For storage, I've had a re-shuffle for a 500GB boot drive, a 1TB games drive and a 2TB HDD for general files. Upped to a top of the line RMx 850W PSU. For CPU cooling, I'd ideally go for an AIO, the Cooler Master 240mm AIO is a good choice for the 5600X, although a bit loud if you're looking for a quiet build. I've removed the thermal paste as the standard stuff will be perfectly fine. I've also removed the sound card. Unless you do audio editing/ production, the built in Audio on the motherboard will be perfectly good. Swapped to the AX200 WiFi card which will be ample for your WiFI speeds. And removed the PCIe USB port card. I've also removed the anti-virus as it's known to cause issues and the Silver warranty is well worth the £5.

Assuming the monitor you're looking at will go on top of this PC budget, I've left a bit off the top along with the montior funds for a nicer 1440p 144hz monitor. For this I'd suggest the AOC CQ27G2U (I have one and love it), or a Samsung G5 (which is a forum favourite)

I am trying to go for a fairly quiet build yeah as I'm a bit sensitive to noises :')
The case was the only one that fit all the parts in that I wanted, and I'm not too fussed on how it looks as it'll most likely be out of sight :)

Would anyone be able to give this a quick look before I send my order off?
Looking for fast processing and multi-program/window operation. Occasional gaming and fast speed that doesnt tend to get slowed down easily.
Looking at a budget of up to £1800 for the tower, as I am buying the keyboard etc. seperately. Looking for fast performance that looks good, but with the focus on the speed over looks. (I'd rather play a game that didnt freeze up and looked a bit uglier than one that looked like real life but constantly broke up).

Thanks in advance!!

JUNI0R

VALUED CONTRIBUTOR
Would anyone be able to give this a quick look before I send my order off?
Looking for fast processing and multi-program/window operation. Occasional gaming and fast speed that doesnt tend to get slowed down easily.
Looking at a budget of up to £1800 for the tower, as I am buying the keyboard etc. seperately. Looking for fast performance that looks good, but with the focus on the speed over looks. (I'd rather play a game that didnt freeze up and looked a bit uglier than one that looked like real life but constantly broke up).

Thanks in advance!!

We've already suggested a number of specs for you.
-Are they not quite right? If so, what are you looking to change?
-You say "keyboard etc" but what specifically is the 'etc' and will this all need to come in the £2,000 budget you provided above?
-And would you be able to provide a link for this spec?
