Microsoft Store Stuck on Pending

Hello,

I received my new PC last week and everything has been working great but i just happened to notice that when i went into the Microsoft Store i had a load of updates and downloads stuck on "Pending". I did a google search and saw that this is a common issue but i have tried all the fixes i can find and none of them have resolved the issue (this involves repairing, resetting, uninstalling and reinstalling).

I have asked a question about this on the Microsoft forums but i'm hoping someone on here can help too. Its a very frustrating problem!!

Thanks for your suggestion but i have tried all of that and i still have the issue :(

(i obviously didn't try the windows 10 only related options)

I have seen other people have suggested re-installing windows but i don't want to do that if i can help it as i have just got everything set up how i like!

Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I've seen this a number of times in these forums and in Discord, but if the other suggestions don't work then a Windows reinstall is unfortunately your best plan in many cases as it means something has probably gone slightly wonky in the initial installation of Windows :(

Thanks for your response. Can i get away with just doing a windows reset do you think?

Yes actually it's fairly simple these days and should only take around 30-45 minutes, you will lose all data on your primary storage drive though so I'd recommend backing up anything you want to keep. From our friend Martin below

instructions for clean install

Download a new copy of Windows using the Media Creation Tool (Second option on linked page) to an 8GB (min) USB.
Boot that USB and choose a Custom Install.
Delete all UEFI partitions on the system drive (EFI System, Recovery, MSR Reserved, Primary).
Select the unallocated space that results and click the Next button. The installer will create the correct partitions and install Windows.
Run Windows Update repeatedly, even across reboots, until no more updates are found.
You may need/want to download and install the latest graphics driver from the Nvidia/AMD website (they change so regularly the latest version isn't always in the Windows libraries).
This is also worth a watch
 
Thanks all for your help with this. Ironically one of the updates just moved a little (its been running in the background for the last hour or so whilst i have been doing other things). Its like its toying with me?!?

Hi all, I can confirm a clean install of windows has fixed it (for now....). What a faff though. My WiFi wasn't detected when trying to install Windows and i had no way to get past that stage without it, so i had to dig around and find a long enough Ethernet cable to plug direct into my router. Thankfully that solved it and the install went as hoped. It took about 2 hours to get everything reinstalled and working but fingers crossed i'm now back in business and Microsoft Store has no more pending! - woop woop!
I would have hoped things like this would have been picked up in PC Specialist's "testing" before they send out machines considering what i paid for it. Maybe i was just unlucky but at least i have learnt something new in how to install Windows 11 :LOL:

It's not something PCS can test.

PCS set the system up, then use the Microsoft Windows OOBE tool which puts windows into the "out of box experience" that the customer then sets up their account and selects their settings on first set up.

The OOBE tool though is prone to failure. But you wouldn't know anything had failed until setting up the account stage which is after it's with the customer.

It's nothing to do with PCS, it's a Microsoft issue and happens to any system manufacture or integrator, to give some examples below, but there are loads of different issues that can occur from OOBE setup
