Hello,

future planning again. But if your using a single montor whats best a flat on or a curved one ie Samsung LC27F591FDUXEN 27" Curved LED?

That depends on what you're doing with it, the specs of the monitor (response time, panel type, etc), personal preference etc. If it has freesync or gsync (this one has freesync) check what range it has.

Apparently the responsiveness is decent for a VA panel, but still has some visible overshoot and trailing: https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/samsung-c27f591fd/

The PC Monitors website has some decent reviews of monitors, including videos showing you the viewing angles and so forth.

There will be large PC stores and AV showrooms that might stock monitors / screens like these so you could go in and audition them.

The negative spin on that monitor would be that it's £250 for a 1080p screen with a less than ideal response time for fast-paced gaming, with a max 72hz refresh rate and a freesync range of 48-72. Compared to an AOC G2460PF with a fast response time, 144hz refresh with a 35-144(I think?) freesync range for £220. https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-g2460pf/ So depends what you want from the screen.

Hi,

thanks. I am a bit lost in the technical terms. I am going to be using it for Films, internet usage and PVZGW2.

I have a AOC 20" I think at the moment. was looking to go a little larger and thinking about it weight and height of stand might be a consideration.

only stores i can think of where I would get the monitors are Argos and PC world curries, but the tend to have a lot of sales people that try and talk you into thing you might not need.

So the lower the response time is good?

SAMSUNG C24F396 Full HD 24" Curved LED Monitor @ £149
1920 x 1080p Full HD
Inputs: HDMI & VGA
Wall mountable
Response time: 4 ms
Frequency range - Horizontal: 60 kHz
- Vertical: 60 Hz
On-mode power consumption 25W

Whats VGA& DGI?

But ACER S241HLCbid Full HD 24" LED Monitor Sale price £199
1920 x 1080p Full HD
Inputs: HDMI & VGA & DVI
Wall mountable
Response time: 1 ms
Frequency range - Horizontal: 64 – 83 kHz
- Vertical: 50 – 75 Hz
On-mode power consumption 25.6 W

so the acer is better?

I don't think it's a case of better, it's a case of different. The acer might be a bit faster for high-paced gaming. But the Samsung's image probably looks nicer due to the VA panel and it also has freesync. Also the pricing I saw for the Acer was £80 less than that, making it much cheaper than the Samsung, which given the specs difference doesn't surprise me.

I would still suggest going into a store where you can browse the items on display and get a sense of what the different monitors have to offer. You don't have to pick from only the options they have on display, but it will let you get a sense of whether you like really glossy screens or screens with more of a matte finish, whether some stands look and feel cheap (and if that's something that bothers you), how the viewing angles are, whether you like the richer colours of IPS / VA screens, how a monitor with a height adjustable stand feels in-hand. They might even let you try some sample footage you bring in on a USB pen. The point is that for monitors it's good to have an idea of what the different options might look like in the flesh.

And as with any showroom, never buy on a first visit :)

Hi,

went to Currys PC world last week window shopping. forgot about the USB with footage suggestion - how would you do that? I only transferred documents music and family tree on my usb.

I was very disappointed with the selection there and they all had very static image and most of the curved screens had colour distortions. the only screen that wowed was also supper expensive.

ACER Predator XB281HKBMIPRZ Ultra HD 28” LED Monitor
Product code: 156510 @£579

AOC Agon AG271QG WQHD 27" IPS LED Monitor
Product code: 168987 @ %49 and they only had the box no display for this.

Shame the visit wasn't more informative. Worth a go anyway. At least you know you're not overly impressed by curved screens.

The one near here generally has half a dozen models out, not displayed as such but paired with the various home and office PCs they have. We checked out the AOC 12369vm (which is one of the ones PCS stock) there before buying it.

Spydertracks has that Acer monitor and seems happy with it: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...do-4K-Gaming-!&p=382349&viewfull=1#post382349

That AOC also looks nice:

PC Monitors Review: http://tinyurl.com/hg9g8xl

However, they're both super expensive and high resolution / refresh rate and would need powerful GPUs. The AOC one, being 1440p and 165 hz, would want a GTX 1070 (~£400) or GTX 1080 (~£600) while the Acer is a 4k monitor and would want a GTX 1080 for gaming.

Hello,

Thanks. I did not look to much at the screens on the computer because a lot did not say what they were. Think I will have to see what computer I end up getting in July and the graphics card I can afford. then see how it works with current monitor and start saving for Xmas for the more expensive screen.
I think i am leaning towards the Acer for aesthetics as my pc chair is black and red. Almost considered buying the acer predator computer when at pc world but looking at the specifications I could not play PvZGW2 on it and its was more than I really wanted to spend But I liked the look of the case.

[Daft Dad did offer to but new monitor for my birthday, but refused as he has less cash than me]

Not a bad idea I'd say.

How do you set up the split screens?
No idea, looks like LG have some software you download for the monitor so maybe it's in there. It just looks like the same kind of thing you can already do on any screen in Windows with Aerosnap.

I this a good monitor ?
I've no idea I'm afraid, I can only suggest googling professional and user reviews. It's a bit more demanding than 1080p being 2560x1080 rather than 1920x1080 but should still be within the scope of a GPU like the RX 480 or the lower end of whatever AMD's vega line is.

if your going to be watching films/dvd s is it better to have a separate dvd drive or an internal one?
In terms of performance either is fine.

We love you Ukraine

No, scart is the connector on your vhs player, it's an old format and analogue. You would need an adapter to convert the analogue signal to a digital and then pass through the feed through HDMI or DVI for your monitor.

There's an article here that explains it and shows you the connectors: http://www.techturtle.co.uk/convert-scart-to-hdmi/

There is NO SCART to HDMI cable, it's not possible without an active signal adapter in the middle. There are lots of SCART to HDMI cables on amazon, but they're fakes that won't do the job.

Hi, Me again.

So I have gone for the Graphics Card 3GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1060 - DVI, HDMI, 3 x DP

if I was looking for a 24 to 27 inch Monitor to go with this are there any you would recomend. also how would you go about comparing height adjustment available. would like to not have to get a montior riser or use old tin of chocolates.

That's quite a range of options. If you go for a 144hz monitor (starting at circa £200-£220) then they generally have height adjustable stands anyway. PCS have a few on sale that are generally quite sound, like the AOC g2460pf, which I've also seen on sale for £209.

Cheaper monitors with height adjustable stands seem to start at ~£140/£150.

I saw a XUB2390HS-B1 for ~£150 which seemed decent value (IPS panel with a height adjustable stand) and got good customer reviews. It's 23" though.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend a 27" monitor for 1080p, as some people can find that at 1080p the pixel density is a bit low for that big a screen. It's personal taste though I'm sure. Owning a number of 23" monitors, which are great, I would still recommend 24" all else being equal.

Ok. refined choice to the 24inch. can i ask refresher on what a TN panel is compared to a IPS? and with a Nivida graphis card do i only want G sync and not free sync ?
Had been looking at that aoc screen and was not sure how adjustable it was. never heard of Illyama before and they good or more aimed at the budge purchase?

can you my a monitor and get it not to use the speakers?
