Mouse problem

Im currently having a problem with my mouse where it seems to "double click" even though the mouse button was only clicked once.
Was wondering if anyone had come across this problem and if it is a hardware or software problem?

The mouse is a pretty old optic microsoft intelimouse and on the software side ive not had any specific drivers except the ones that win7 supply in the updates.

Thanks in advance :)

I know this may not help, but i had the same problem with an old Dell mouse of mine. Never did found a solution for it, i had to buy a new mouse. Have you tried cleaning it of dried on sweat, and crap under the buttons? Don't snap off the buttons, just lift them slightly to blow into it or whatever :)

It could be a device incompatibility with windows7,or you just need a new mouse,
but check to see if "single click to open an item(point to select)"is selected in folder options.
to do this open a window ,eg,libraries/control panel/computer,
click on the tools tab/folder options/general,
make sure "double click to open an item is selected"/apply.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a wee look, but the double click thing only happens ocassionally.
May be time to get a new mouse...
