Multi function laptop help required ( and appreciated)

Hi all

Im thinking of buying a laptop and and have been procrastinating for a couple of weeks - I think my brain may be about to melt with all the possibilities available. I've had a look at the latest MSI range of laptops ie CX640, also looked at some ASUS offerings... then I came across this site.

Budget around (ish) £850, will be used for recreation i.e watching movies, net surfing, possibly with the occasional game ( not talking anything cutting edge graphics wise here).

I also intend to use the laptop for work when I am out of the office / at home (15.6 max screen size for portability). I use autocad but mostly 2D stuff which shouldn't be too taxing. Also occasionally run some 3D Finite element modelling software which relies on number crunching (I hear this is where Sandy Bridge processors are most at home). I tend to multi-task and have about a million different windows open at once and I'm not a fan of having to wait for things to open (though I'm not really sure if i can justify the extra cost of an SSD)

Battery life is fairly important as I intend to use the laptop on fairly long train journeys, tho I suppose I could order an extra battery if I got stuck. Build quality has to be decent as the laptop will no doubt take the occasional bump given my clumsiness

Any comments on the spec below would be much appreciated

That looks good to me. But if it won't really be running any games, do you think you could get away with the enigma III 520? Its a bit cheaper? But I'm not sure how demanding CAD programmes are though.

number crunching on a laptop is always a tough one as theyre much less powerful than their desktop counterparts. I'd say get the highest clocked i7 you can afford AND an SSD or you're likely to struggle.

Thanks for the comments,

Ill probably just go with the i5, its really just for backup when I'm stuck out of the office
