Erm well you've got £800 minus windows 7 I guess?, so you'll get something decent but it'll have to be AMD which is most gamers choice anyway

few things you should know:
1. Games are only using 4 or less CPU Cores so the high speed Quad core is the best choice with ur budget, otherwise you could get a 6 core if you had more room in your budget but 2 of them cores won't be used for a long time and by that time there will much better ones for the same price you'd pay now
2. 4GB of ram is apperntly ample for all games atm
3. that Graphics card is the best you're going to get for a well balanced PC within ur budget, it'll play everything you listed in ultra/high and if you crossfire insane settings
4. Power supply(Choose the better quality corsair PSU) and case room to crossfire
5. the Caviar green's are slow so I put in a Caviar black which is pretty good as you can't afford a SSD/10000RPM HDD with that budget

thats good , real good , but i am also looking for value for money as well as performance , i dont think yours can be beaten for performance , but i am also looking to spend as less as possible , so if a 500 pound computer can do all my tasks needed with ease , it will be the computer i purchase ( and winner of the competition)

mate this is for value for money hence AMD and a Quad and not a intel I7, you wont get a gaming pc to play high end games on good settings for £500, that's the best gaming PC you're going to get for bang for buck + performance within ur budget for the things you want to do, if £500 is ur budget you're looking at something much less - you may not need that graphics card depending if you want to play the games at full HD or not

This is very close to my spec I recently bought. This CPU is slightly less powerful than the one I run (the 970) But it is more than capable for your needs and won't restrict the performance.
A caviar green drive is also sufficient (I run the same with no problems as do a lot of people!). It is "slow" because it spins down when not in use instead of spinning at a constant 7,200rpm which means you do lose time (a few seconds each time) when accessing the drive. I have not noticed it causing any problems or hold ups while gaming even when playing WoW which utilises the HDD far more than most other games. Load times are still pretty good!
The GTX470 is a great GPU, also one I'm running (lol basically just bias towards this spec as its so close to mine and runs everything so well!) It maxes out everything on the market at present and will continue to do so for a while. Currently I've played, at max (ie "high" or "ultra") with zero lag or frame rate drops, FFXIV, WoW, Dawn Of War 2, Metro2033, Supreme Commander 2, Fallout New Vegas and a host of other smaller games, none of which pose any problem for my rig :)
A 650W PSU is more than ample if you've no plans to Crossfire or SLI or add other components for a while. If you're planning on just swapping out components such as the GPU in a few years time you won't have to worry about the PSU at all.
Removed the card reader, can add it in if you wan't, only a couple of £ more, I don't know how much use you'll get out of it, I've used mine 3 times lol
Note, this spec also includes Windows 7. You can remove it if you don't need it and save yourself a further £79.

you lie a GTX470 isn't suffice to run metro33 in ultra or blackops I've read benchmarks, ur spec doesn't have any crossfire capabilites either so when he can't run metro33 full HD in ultra he wont be able crossfire two GTX470's to compensate either

Excuse me? Are you deliberately trying to cause offense by calling me a liar?
I own the game and I play the game regulary at its FULL settings with NO problems what so ever. The GTX470 is more than capable.
You can not crossfire Nvidia cards anyway, its called SLI for Nvidia. Shows how much you know fella. Before you jump on insulting people try getting your facts straight. Just because you've "read benchmarks" doesn't mean anything. I can't comment on black ops as I've only got that on the Xbox but Metro 2033 most definitely CAN be run at full settings with my current rig. Thank you very much and Merry flaming Christmas.

PS: Mods, apologies for swearing, I realise this will have annoyed you, edit away and bring out the ban hammer if necessary, the blokes a douche.

Please show a bit of respect for other people's posts. Its the christmas holidays for goodness sake.

he does NOT lie, ive owned the GTX 470, heck I have another right next to me as a present for a family member. The card is a beast, it will hammer all of the games. It CAN ultra both of those games. As long as you dont play it on a stupidly dual setup screen both at 2560x1600......

Merry Xmas to both of you!

P.S. Id go for JSG's spec but id add teh TX850W from Len's spec for a future SLI. This will help with gaming in the future, but not the editing side of things as SLI doesnt apply there.

P.P.S. ATI cards may be ok for gaming but there is no Physx and no CUDA.

Lastly: Nvidia is the way to go for mild editing with its CUDA cores, if youre using photoshop download the CUDA plugin, and if youre using badaboom media converter, they sould be releasing the fermi patch soon.

GTX470, 1920x1200 NO AA 16X AF, AVG. FPS 44.4, "high settings"

Nope doesn't max it, an ur power supply can not sli two GTX470's :D, No AA to sharpen out the edges either

Firstly;
Breezah, by giving your account away you are in violation of the SSA and as such the account will be disabled if you do so. Due to the violation any future or current accounts of both parties (yours and the new holder) will also be disabled.

Secondly;
Len, if my GTX285 can handle Black Ops on its highest settings then I am sure that a GTX470 can. As for Metro 2033, that's another matter given from my experience it's a highly unstabled and poorly optimised game yet your attitude isn't socially acceptable even if it is a competition..

Not going to get into an argument with you Len. You are wrong and thats all there is to it. A GTX470 DOES max out Metro2033 and loads of other brand new games out as both myself and Slenious have stated. Stop arguing just for the sake of it.
As for SLI, why are you so obsessed with it? It isn't that fantastic, I'd rather have one high end card then swap out further down the line for another single high end card instead of SLI.

Let's get back to the subject of spec'cing a PC guys. Len although this may be a small competition, it's not worth causing offence with your fellow forum members, so please bear that in mind when making future posts.

That is why I said, add the TX850W from your build...

You're tredding a very thin line here Len. The competition is just an added bonus, the whole point of this thread is to help someone chose what best suits their needs. You've posted the spec you consider best, don't try and argue with other people's specs and give them a chance to post what they feel would be best suited.

don't you mean thin ice, your free to express ur opinions on a forum, whats with all the whine and threats?
check benchmarks it won't give you 60 solid FPS maxed at 1920/1200 not even close though when the environments less intensive it will max at 60FPS, when you add AA it drops significantly

"We found that 1920x1200 was the best resolution to play at, and allowed us to run at "High" in-game settings on both video cards. However, no AA was playable on either video card, 4X MSAA was too much of a performance hit" (5850, GTX470) - they didn't max it with either cards, average of 40 FPS, Hardocp.com review

Every review is different, it depends on what else they used too & nope I meant thin line.

You are indeed free to express your opinions but you are NOT free to call people liars just because your opinion on piece of hardware differs form someone else's.

I suggest that any further replies you need to make are related to the OP's enquiries.

Thankyou.

Just to clear something up here if you can get 25FPS in a game you can run it smoothly so if you've got all the settings on max and you're getting 25+FPS it's fine.
