Hey everyone in PC Specialist land, i'm new to this whole thing, so for the longest of time i have been wanting to get a gaming PC and now i'm at the point where i think i am ready.

I have been a console gamer through and through but there are certain games on PC that i want to experience for the first time that are just impossible to do on console

Now i primarily want this PC for gaming but i will likely use it as my main PC going forward, i want one where i can comfortably play smoothly on most games whilst not pushing the system too hard, i mainly plan on playing Strategy/simulation games for example Mount & Blade 2, Total war series, mabye GTA 5 and etc...basically a PC that can play most games smoothly on high settings if needed without any issues..

I have come up with this spec here and i'd like to know what you guys think of it?

What do you guys think? what would change about this?

I was thinking 24 inch screen, not sure on the brand but around that size..

Overall budget....£1100 if although below that would be convenient..

I want this primary for gaming but obviously for every day use like a regular PC, My budget is just over 1000 could go under it's sacrificing things that i can't downgrade, i want to know i can play most if not all game smoothly on high settings if i choose, don't plan on going in hardcore online gaming so the refresh rate won't be much of an issue but i also did choose a monitor that has 1ms , so i should be fine.

I mainly plan to play strategic based games and simulation titles like Mount & blade or mabye GTA 5 for mods etc...i also want this to last me a good 5 or more years before i think of upgrading so what do you guys think?

Basically i want quality gaming on high setting but not go overboard with power, any things i should change

I ordered something pretty similar. I am definitely not an expert, but I would upgrade the RAM to 3200hz
Also, your network card doesn't seem to support 5ghz?

The specs seem to be a bit of an overkill for 21.5" monitor as well.

Here's my build and feedback on it if you are interested:

I ended up tweaking it a bit, in terms of the Monitor, i just want smooth 1080p gaming with a good Ms count so which monitor i chose wasn't really concerned

That's almost identical build to mine (should arrive tomorrow!). However, from what I've read so far, the Ryzen 5 3600X is not worth it compared to Ryzen 5 3600. The budget could go to a larger monitor instead.

Monitor is paramount to gaming and needs to match the gpu you’re pairing it with.

the one you’ve selected is 1080p 60hz but you have it paired with a 1080p 144hz GPU.

So the GPU will never run at full power because the monitor can’t display any more than 60fps.

You need a much better monitor.

And yes, there’s no benefit to the 3600x over the 3600, same CPU

Tell me how it goes man, just ordered it today so likely gonna be waiting another 2 weeks or so, in the meantime, i'll do some Monitor browsing, any recommendations?

I'm looking for something under £150

You won’t get anything under £150, monitors are fast running out of stocks and prices have soared.

Cheapest I can find is here, t t here will go very quickly so buy fast:

I'll update you if I don't forget because of excitement :)

I bought a 1440p 27" 144hz monitor, but I needed a large screen for work and prefer 1440p, even if I won't be able to play some games at max on 1440p, I could always play in windowed. Have a look at what

The reason why I went with such monitor, apart from the productivity increase (27") is because I believe the monitor will last me a while (even after I replace the GPU in ~3-4y and won't be outdated by then.

If you decide to get 1440p, it needs to be 144Hz, there's zero point to 1440p 60Hz for gaming, it's awful. Plus next gen GPU's will be overpowered anyway for 1440p 60Hz, so you'd have to upgrade it as soon as you update the GPU.

I personally plan on just sticking to 1080p for now, that's not to say if i find a 1440p one that has 144Hz for a decent price that i won't snag it but for now...as long as it has 1ms and on 1080p, that's all i need, what specific 1080p monitors would you recommend for my build.

the response time (ms) has absolutely no bearing on how good it is, they will state any number they wish, doesn't have any relevance. The important thing is resolution, refresh rate, panel type and that it has adaptive sync (freesync or gsync)

Is that really true? AFAIK the response time of a monitor is how long it takes for a pixel to change colour, so low response times mean a sharper image when displaying a changing scene. It would thus seem to me that a low monitor response time (such as the 1ms specified by the OP) is important when gaming? Or am I misunderstanding...?

I always assumed the lower Ms the better response you'll have, all i'm looking for is a monitor that has barely any input delay that can affect performance of the gameplay, i don't plan on going deep into online shooters, mostly Single player stuff, as long i can play smoothly on max settings if i ever wanted to do that

In reality, the rate that manufacturers put on panels has no relevance to real world tests, they all chose which colour to which colour, there's no standardisation and it's literally just stated to achieve the wow factor from customers. The more accurate companies are people like Dell (who are ususally around th 5ms range) and Microsoft, Samsung are one of the worst (you'll find almost all Samsungs are stated as 1ms) along with Asus and Acer. This is one of those numbers that you can only get from third party testers. It's exactly the same as the numbers given for battery life or something like that, has no relevance to real world tests.
