New keyboard.

Looking for some advice on a new keyboard that's also good for gaming.
I would like one primarily with backlight illumination and possibly an anti ghosting keyboard, also quite fancy trying a mechanical one.
The CM Storm Quick Fire Pro from PCS looks like it could fit the bill.
Any advice much appreciated.

You got a budget? From reviews and feedback from other forum members the CM Storm quick fire seems to be pretty good

Don't want to be spending much more than £70 to £80 on a keyboard really.
What's the difference between the TK and normal tom,do PCS just have the normal one?

I cant recall what models PCS stock, but the storm keyboards are quite well priced.

The New Quickfire XT, looks pretty nice, but i dont think its fully backlit. - http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/QuickFireXT/
Quickfire TK, great little compact keyboard, 38cm wide.nice backlights, can get it in different colours with different key switches. - http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfiretk/
trigger, i looked at this, but opted for the TK due to the smaller size, - http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/Trigger/
quickfire rapid, smaller and doesn't include a numpad. - http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfirerapidred/
quickfire rapid pro, looks quite nice imo, but its not fully backlit. - http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfirepro/

I quite like the look of the XT, looks like it has some nice features but no back lights.

I have the razer black widow ultimate 2013 edition and it is superb, its a joy to type on and game on, the back lighting is a nice touch and it is obviously a fully mechanical keyboard. cant recommend it high enough + it has a nice braided cable :)

I decided to go for the CM Storm Quick Fire Pro from PCS and received it yesterday along with a IIYAMA E2273HDS monitor.
Really pleased with the monitor but have a problem with the keyboard.
On starting up,the keyboard doesn't work, but comes to life about a minute or so later,I've had these messages a couple of times "One of the USB devices has malfunctioned" and "Windows doesn't recognise this device".
I know the USB port is OK,but tried another port anyway with the same result.
Why am I so unlucky with new hardware :(
Pity really as I really like it,is there anything obvious I'm missing?

hmm, have you tried uninstalling all the old keyboard drivers? or a different usb port?
I tried different different USB ports and had the same issue,as for keyboard driver I had a look in device manager yesterday and no keyboard driver showing, but now it is showing and with a "this device is working properly" status,so just wondering if my system initially had a problem recognising the device.
So I'm not sure if there's maybe an intermittent problem with the keyboard or the cable or windows just playing silly again.

hmm, sounds like windows being silly. You could check the CM storm site for drivers or included software.
It's working fine at the moment,I'll have a look to see if software is available as you suggested, but will wait for a while first just to see if the problem reoccurs.
Thanks for the help tom. :)

It says in the manual the keys are "the highest grade gold plated mechanical switches (cherry MX) rated for over 50 million keystrokes" I love the feel of it,really impressed. :)
Edit: I'm sure it's going to help me kill that nasty person Vaas,I've been trying for ages. :)

sorry, i meant what kind of mechanical switches, there are different colours which correspond to different different mechanical switches. Each offering a different feel. Mine are Red, but there are blues, browns, blacks available.
