I am buying a PC for a close friend. He had around £1,000 to spend. Now I am no expert but did alot of reading and asked several people for advice and was thinking of this one below. The only stipulation he had was that he wanted TWO DVD writers and TWO 1GB Hard Drives. The machine is for playing games.

I assume he did mean that :)

It looks like a very nice spec, you can probably save him some money and drop the PSU down to a 650W Corsair PSU, as 800W is quite high, 650W would be above requirements but would give ample room for future updates/upgrades etc.

The Intel i5 760 and the GTX 460 should provide lots of fun!

Are you looking for the best possible spec for £1000? Does he already have a copy of Windows? (Since you don't list that?)

Also why the 800W PSU? Too much IMO and I'd drop that down to the 650W Corsair.

the guys are right, the 650 corsair performs better than the 800 and gives you better all round power at lower cost :) why 2 DVD drives though.. is he going to be burning dvds?

As everyone else has stated, a 600W or 650W will be more than adequate, and as HMFC_Riley has stated, if you want it to work straight form the box with less chance of problems, we recommend you order Windows 7 Home Premium with the order :)

I appreciate all the feed back and will recommend the change of power supply. And to answer LDUK... Yes he wants two drives. As for the operating system.. he doesnt want to buy a new one as he already has Windows 7 Pro.

So other than the power supply do you think it will be good for playing games on?

Thanks to everyone who have taken the time to comment so far :)

I put forward your suggestions which he has taken on board

HOWEVER he asked is it worth changing the 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX460 GDDR5 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11 to a 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX460 GDDR5 PCI EXPRESS ??

Since the difference is only £16

Thanks again for the feedback :D

This card is slightly faster, as it's overclcoked, and the extra memory will be better for future games which require more than 1GB, so if you think it's worth it for £16, I'd go for it :)

Yeah so would I, especially as there are more and more memory intensive games out there, rather than GPU / shader intensive

Go for the 2GB. A faster card with double memory for a small price of £16? Hell yeah it's worth it.
