New SSD not showing. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Hi all.

In addition to deciding that I need to repaste (which I haven;t actually done yet), I decided to add a second m2 ssd as I have been fairly limited by the small one that I have had for the last 5 years.

Anyway...

New drive arrived and I have insalled it but nothing is showing up in windows explorer.

Having looked at a few youtube videos they all talk about formatting the drive but if I go to Disk Mnagement then the new ssd doesn't show and so I can't proceed any further.

Screenshot of disk manager is below but it only shows the original smaller ssd which came with the laptop originally.

The new drive is a 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD

Is my new ssd faulty or am I missing something?

I've also taken a photo of the installation and pasted my full specs below in case it helps.

Does it show up in the BIOS, also make sure it is properly seated in the socket, give all the contacts a good wipe

Hi and thanks for your help.

When you say give the contacts a good wipe, do you mean just with my fingers? I am a little paranoid that these things are really sensitive...

Also, how do I check the bios?

just wipe them with a soft dry cloth (something like a glasses cleaning cloth), to get to the BIOS follow instructions below, once in check whats listed under the boot devices

Hi,

I'm really sorry for my ignorance but I've got this far but have no idea what any of this means...

I hope not - This is the only way that it would fit.

The laptop is 5 years old so unlikely to get anything fixed under waranty...

Any suggestions for what to double check/ change?
That's not the correct M2 drive for that slot. 5 years ago there were various different types of M2 drive, all different connectors.

Yeah it seems like the same size as the Intel 600p or at least uses the same slot. but it is 100% upsidedown in that pic just checked one I have in work here

I took this photo in order to take a look at the pins

However it was only then that I noticed the "3G/LTE + M.2 SATA"

The SSD I installed is NVMe.

I assume that is the issue?

If so I'll return it and look for an alternative

No NVMe is the interface and m.2 is the form factor they are two seperate things. NVMe drives use m.2.

Any way your picture shows that the small row of pins contain 5 pins. That makes it an M key m.2 socket. I assume if you look at the small row of pins on your drive it will have 6 pins making it a B key m.2 drive. That means they are not compatible.
